WOW, 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft. of torque! That thing will be the exotic killer.

    10's should be fairly easy.

They forgot the most important number: $100,000+.

For that coin, I can get an SRT-10 Viper Coupe, dump $10K into go-fast goodies ("Hello? Sean Roe? Yeah...I'd like to place an order..."), and run easy 10's all day long.
Oh yeah...and have $10K+ left over for a nice mutual fund.

    .....or.....

Hop online, score a minty GNX for $50K, invest in some drag radials, and run 10's all day long.
...and have $40K+ left over for a few lap dances.

    Hell, I could have bought Brady's SRT-10 QC for $40K and run 10's. In a 6000 lb. full-size quad-cab pickup!!
That's $60K in the bank! Drinks are on me!

BTW- That's it for the LSx engines. No more displacement for you. All done.

With this wisdom, I could gut a Dodge Omni GLHS, build the engine, add a bigger turbo and run 10s all day. But, like the other vehicles above, I would be missing the point. This is a stock, with warranty Detroit hotrod that we, the US, is famous for. Congrats to GM for building this beast. Kuddos to those who buy it. As if sticker will even be relevant in cost....think Dealer Market "Adjustment". But, thats anohter rant.

FWIW, my take is buying a 08 Viper. Add parts. Be happy. See me 4th qtr 08 for results.

lol @ dumping money in an old car. i personally would never do that. just a quick fyi, if you whine about the price tag, thats the first sign you cant afford it. there are quite a few people out there that will no doubt buy it, then dump another 30k into it.

i know i cant afford it, but i wont whine about the price when it can easily roast exotics 3 times its price.

Don't get me wrong: It's a pretty badass ride. It is nice to see HP wars happening here in the US. Corvette vs. Viper....one pushes; the other pushes back. Customers/drivers win!!!

And you're right- I probably can't afford it. But even before I got to the budgetary concerns, it fails my "Want Test".
    - See-through hood? George Barris called. He wants his idea back. From 1972.
    - CF stickers on the B-pillar? Sorry, but "applique´" is French for "sticker".

"cook exotics 3x it's price all day long". In what context?
    Daily driving?
    Drag strip?
    Autocross?
    "The Ring"?
    Dead Sexy Factor?
I was going with Drag Strip as the context option because "10's" was the benchmark most were talking about.

And to clarify my earlier post:
    - 2008 Viper Coupe
    - 2005 SRT-10 QC (Mike Brady's truck)
The only 'old' vehicle I listed was the GNX, and I wouldn't call a set of rims and drag radials "dumping a bunch of money".

Sorry if it came off as whining. Just trying to dose a little reality.

Why do you think that? just because of the quick release finger clips for the front body work?
