How does TrendMicro compare with NOD32? If NOD32 is better is it better enough to dump the TrendMicro it comes with and buy NOD32?

I'm not sure. I don't know enough about NOD32 to make that call.
What I do know is that a very good friend of mine is a professional hacker (he gets paid, handsomely, to test the security of systems and bigass networks) and he and his cronies...ahem....peers swear by the TM stuff.

Those guys can get into Norton faster than Mikey can get into the Blue Oyster Bar.

PC-Cillin is thee shit, for sure. It's not even CLOSE to as much of a resource-hog as NAV. I just had a "spare" NAV2008 CD sitting around and threw it on this box. :getlost::bigwink: Once the subscription is up, I'm going back to PCC.

NOD32 tooting their own horn vs. the competition: Nod32 vs. Competition

Random blog about Trend Micro vs. Nod32

We just installed NOD32 on 6 computers in the family after the in laws were FINALLY convinced to ditch Norton and some junk called "Stop Sign." Some comp tech company they've had working for them suggested it (since, you know, my opinion matters not).

All in all, it's going to be up to you. NOD32 does the job. Trend Micro does the job. Kaspersky does the job as well. Trial run each one, or run all 3. Who knows.

When you work with corporate systems...you HAVE to use what is "corporate approved" lol

i have to download everything that i put on a computer connected to our corporate system from an internal website that has all our software.

so not a whole lot of options with the antivirus so nothing i can do about that....

I have tried using some of the things that tell ya how to get rid of it....nothing has worked....or i couldnt do what it says because my admin privileges were stripped lol

hes not "remote" its just not my computer haha.....

and im done with it...i spent a few hours looking at it yesterday and im having him ship it back and get a new one haha

why are you even bothering trying to "fix" it? if it's on there, it will come back. wipe out the hdd and reinstall the os.

hate to break the "trend" here, but i dont know a "hacker" that would ever use a virus scanner at all. there just isnt one that is built to the specs of their network.

remember folks, a hacker is someone who codes for the wrong reasons, a cracker is one who actually works in the field of network security (what i do).

no cracker i know, and i work with quite a few (including myself) run windows when theyre cracking into a system. be it a windows server or workstation or even another linux box.

all virus scanners do essentially the same thing, they use a list of definitions to root out and remove an offending virus that has already infected your machine. the best defense that you can get for yourself is a very good hardware firewall that locks down your personal network. once the virus is in, its up to your software to be able to handle it, though your software would need to be as up to date as humanly possible which is usually an impossibility if the hacker truly wants to take over your machine or cause the most damage he/she can.

the reason why nod is so far above the rest (including trend micro which is actually shit) is because they have a team of coders who attack each new virus that comes out and then release updates to counteract the virus asap. eset just happens to have the most badass anti virus engineers around right now. this used to be the case when symantec was running the show....

as for me, i use symantec corporate because that is what best serves my network. i use eset at home and will never go back to anything other. my work network is so secured by hardware firewalls that i would never need to upgrade from the symantec server that we are currently running, there is just no need. you would be surprised at just how many large businesses actually dont use a virus scanner at all. a good team of network analysts would be able to catch an offending pc and lock down their switch port faster than the virus could be transmitted by unknowing personnel.

oh, also, all the retailers software firewalls you can get in a store are crap. its just another pos program that will slow down your windows machine.

Its a work computer that contains a lot of information that we need to recover prior to replacement of the HD...i have pulled off what needs to be pulled off safely and its time to replace it with a nice new one

im with my fellow steve here...doesnt matter how "secure" you BELIEVE your system to be...there is someone out there thats smarter than you and can and will get in if they so choose...

    quoted for truth.

but a virus scanner will help keep out the stupid little ones. but if someone wants in, they'll get in.
