The Eastlake Queertette, the 4 of us, live in a nice area of San Diego that's approximately, let's say, 10 square miles. New homes, new plazas and malls, etc. etc. etc. Other than Rick, Drew, Ryan and I, there are: 2 - Charger SRT8s 1 - 300SRT8 1- GCSRT8 I see these folks all the time. I'm sure there are more than those. One of them I kind of raced about 6-8 months ago. Another stopped and chatted for a second. The other two, despite me seeing them ALL the time, never wave or anything despite numerous attempts on my part. Even the one I kind of raced and the one who I chatted with don't acknowledge me anymore. Heck, there are SRT guys who run at the local 1/8 track in San Diego that don't associate! And that's a confined/controlled space! I feel the same way: we own special vehicles and are therefore part of an 'elite' club of sorts. Many (such as the above) saw the car, liked the looks and speed and that's it. They don't buy into the car culture, let alone the Mopar Subculture. Some just don't get it. Sad, but true. They likely treat it and regard it as if it's a Kia. They don't truly appreciate what it is, nor do they have a sense of the car's heritage and potential legacy. So, I just treat them like everyone else on the road... I look down my nose at them with an arrogance and disdain that only an SRT owner AND enthusiast can muster. Their ignorance is their bliss. Fuk 'em, I say!
I know most of the SRT8 owners in San Diego (except Ralph #2, right Raland) so I always wave. Most wave back. I got a huge wave from a Viper SRT-10 owner the other night. Too bad it was yellow, otherwise a very a nice looking car.
I know my wife hates to drive my car when she gets to about once a year. She says EVERYONE stairs at me when I drive that THING! After I get done slapping her around, I tell it they are looking at her beauty... she's like ya right... whatever...Lol! Maybe that's the non-waving people... husbands and wives that are "temporarily" driving the beast and scared to take their eyes off the road knowing they will get a beat down when they get home if it gets the slightest scratch!
Oh chit, Drew that is so true! When I drive the old lady's Diesel Excursion, I love to spooool up the turbo and beat everyone off the line. Poor kids and wife are thrown all over the place. It only has 40K miles and I have gone through 3 or 4 brake pads so far. :zorro:
I have seen SRT's around my work, and just watching them... They walk away from their cars, maybe some will look back towards the car when they hit the lock button, others just walk away. They do not park away from other cars... These are the same people who will drive around the parking lot for 10 minutes waiting for a spot up front. (They are the same people who leave shopping carts next to their car when they leave, on windy days!!) They just don't care about the car. They care about what people think about THEM, they think they are above everyone else. I saw an SRT-10 (06) in the parking lot one day when I was leaving work. I walked around it, looking. It looked good! Black w/ black srt wheels, the interior(from what I could see)was very clean.... no noticable dents or scratches. I thought the owner had to be very proud of what they had... the truck was parked away from other cars... (he actually parked 2 spots from my truck) The owner got to his truck about the same time started my truck. I noticed that as he was walking to his passanger door, he was looking over at my truck. I rolled down my window to tell him his truck looked good, he turned away and didn't look back... Oh well!!!! I think he was just mad casue he saw a girl driving a truck like his!!
Soooooo true! My wife used to say "Why do you park so far away" especially at places like WalMart, I would just turn to her and say... It's not like you don't need the exercise..! J/K... hope she never gets on this forum!
ummm, this may not be a car thing... I always park out in East Cupcake. At work there was an entire row where all the fancy cars parked every other spot. Same cars same spots every day. Everybody knew each other and chatted about their cars when we met coming or going. It was pretty neat. Techs all the way to VPs. I can't help looking back at my car at least once if not a few times but I try not to let people see me doing it. Stealth looks, haha
no, he just blew the hampster. jk. you guys are all spot on. my head is always on a swivel. i have to drive my gf 45mins each way to take her to school (wrecked her car last week) so im always on the highway. i see some really nice cars. nobody ever wants to play =(
EVERYBODY checks out my gf on the rare occasions i let her take helga out. yes, helga is her name. after im done slapping her around cuz she didnt have dinner ready in time :viking: she tells me about how she smoked this mustang and that camaro and how she got a thumbs up from who she like to lovingly refer to as "fagnums" (no offense guys i love you to death!). i get jealous cuz she gets the time of day and i dont. and she also gets pissed when i make her walk 3 clicks in the snow cuz i dont wanna park near cars (got hit and run in a parking lot the first week i owned it) but she understands. and after i park her, yes i give her 5-10 looks. sometimes i even walk backwards. im the man.
Hahahaha!!!! Truth be told... that's why I park away from everyone else!! Ron has me trained!!!
I usually have to run people off the road to get their attention...even a guy in TB Daytona. And yes, lots of ladies here in the Pleasanton area in 300 SRTs that are too busy with their damn blackberries to look around them. rop:
Ya I feel for ya... you have your work cut out for you with that one! Lol! Just tighten up on the leash... and restrict the feedings if need be. He'll come around... if not, just tie him up out back for a while... and beat him with a rolled up newspaper!
Actually... Ron has trained ME to park far away.... He'll tell everyone it's because he doesn't want door dings....:sly:
Sadly I have the same experience here in Naples. I get more reaction or acknowlegment from corvette drivers and guys on harleys. Sometimes the vettes even want to play.
