Flybyu,Good to hear the inital tune runs and idles fine,, Let me know if any adjustments that need to be made, and rember the tune I sent you was a base tune and might need to be tweaked for optimal performance..
Hey Dan, I can't wait to see how this turns out buddy. Dave, I got faith man, do your thing!. BTW, I'm at the end of my leash with my tune, it's time to step it up a notch.
Dave Rules!! And I can promise that if you give him the time to perfect your tune, it will be stronger and simply a much better tune
I was able to do my dyno stuff today. I have a bunch of data that Im trying to organize and will post up asap. HotScott7, I'll respond to you now. This isnt about you and your opinion. I am trying to do a real comparison and learn a little on the way. I talked to Dave from B&G several times today while at the dyno shop. He asked me to send him a copy of my ProMotionTune so he could take at it. I of course did as he requested. One of the first things Dave said to me was "My tune and ProMotions' tune are real close". This what I expected to happen. These tunes are all pretty darn close. I am only saying this because I want you to be fair and not start your bashing. Because its just not necessary. Let me sort my dyno graphs, diablo logs, and A/F logs and I will post them.
I drove to the dyno shop with the tune Dave from B&G had sent me on Monday. I hadnt had a chance to drive the car so I wanted to check my A/F ahead of time to see how it looked. It looked lean to me from the naked eye so I called Dave while I was driving. Dave said he would email me a tune with more fuel and to call him when I got it on the dyno. He then asked me about looking at PMT's tune so he could perhaps get into the ballpark a tad easier. I told Dave I would email him the PMT tune when I got to the dyno shop and load up the new tune he was going to send. When I got to the dyno shop, I loaded up my PMT tune for the baseline run. I checked my email and saw a new tune from Dave waiting on me. I then sent Dave my PMT tune. So far I have two tunes from Dave before he has seen the PMT tune. My first pull with the PMT tune nets me 414 HP and 413 TQ. These numbers a much lower than what my car has dyno'd with this tune before but thats not the reason Im at the shop. Im just trying to compare tunes, Im not too concerned with the numbers I end up with. Here is a screen shot of the diablo log that shows the min and max of the values in each catagory. You can see the range of ECT, knock, RPM and spark. My dyno sheet showed me running a tad fat as well even though my wideband log doesnt look bad. Here is the log of the A/F. I will post the Dyno sheet at the end of the post since it shows the comparison of the two tunes I ended up comparing. I then loaded up the tune I had driven to the shop with. The one that I thought was lean. I figured I could have the dyno terminated if it was getting too lean. After we dyno'd it, turns out the A/F was pretty good, around 12.5. It showed a gain of 6 HP and 1 TQ (420/414). Nothing crazy and I attributed this mainly to the air fuel being a tad better. I called Dave and told him of my mistake. He said he would send me a new tune with the original fuel and add some timing as well. While I was waiting on that tune to get emailed, I loaded up the tune Dave had sent me that had more fuel in it. I knew the results werent going to be optimal but worth looking at. I lost 2 HP and gained 4 TQ (418/418) from the previous B&G tune. (4 HP and 5 TQ more than the PMT) No big surprise there. I then loaded up the last tune sent me that had the original fuel levels from Dave and more timing. I ended up getting 8 more HP and 9 more TQ from my original PMT tune. The A/F was around 12.8 or so. Below are the Diablo log, A/F log and the Dyno sheet that shows the PMT comparted to the last B&G run. I only did 4 pulls today mainly do to the shops schedule. I got all the information I really needed. The one thing I wish I would have had time to do was adjust the parameters with the handheld. I know I could have pulled fuel from the PMT tune and put it right were the B&G tune was. I am also sure I can adjust the fuel in the final B&G tune to get the A/F a little more steady across the board. I hope Dave chimes in here to give his opinion. I did not tell PMT about this venture of mine so I dont expect them to post. I hope this was somewhat informative. The PMT and B&G tunes are pretty close as you guys can see. The knock retard were both about 5 and the timing wasnt that much different. What does this prove? Not sure, lol. Please keep this post somewhat civil. I know I didnt have a big 20 HP swing like some others have claimed. I also know that if I called PMT today and said I was running fat, they would have sent me a new tune with less fuel. Like Dave from B&G said, these tunes were all pretty darn close to each other.
it must be the two bachelors degrees and the masters that i got........ got me some college edumacation......
Gentelmen, I gave FLYBYU(Dan) a base Stage 2 CMR tune and made 1 adjustment to get him the 422HP/422TQ numbers, the point being that the base stage 2 tune was pretty close to optimal, all I did was add some timing at WOT based on his KR numbers to optimize.. Like FLYBYU(Dan) did was a real simple process he went to the dyno shop paid for his dyno run, got me on the phone and I made an adjustment for him and he is done with only a couple of dyno pulls to acomplish his results, Congrats on the numbers...
You dont have to try and school me, nor tell me what to do....I have been around the block and am totally aware of the different tuners and what their capabilities are. I am also pretty certain that by saying "Dave Rules" was in no way bashing of any sort, now with that said I think you need to settle down a little bit. Because your over exaggerating, is simply not necessary. Thats great that the tunes were so close, YOU got lucky. But I will say that when it comes to driving, the dyno numbers never tell you which tune is stronger. Maybe your car runs the same or very similar, but I can say that in the past with "other tuners" I noticed a big difference drivability wise, between Daves and the "other tuners" There are a lot of tuners out there and I hope like crazy they can all make good power, the question is this, how long do you want to wait? Without a dyno tune I am sure your previous tune would have taken you months to get perfect....
HotScott7, You are totally correct in saying that the driveability would be quit different between the 2 tunes. I tried to expain to Dan that the 2 tunes are different in many area's and that they would have driveability differences. It is not always about peak HP/TQ numbers.. You can only run so much timing and tweak the fuel so much at WOT.. The B&G Timing and fuel curves both part throttle and WOT are alot differnet then the PMT Tune he had sent me to review after I gave him my tune to dyno(as shown in the dyno graph at the 4000 rpm point +25HP difference),not that the PMT tune is wrong it is just we at B&G tune differently. That is what sets tuners apart is the total package not just peak numbers, athough most people only care about the peak numbers tuners know there is alot more than just timing and fuel that gives the customer the seat of the paints improvement when they hit the gas. On any given day on any dyno peak numbers can and will be different based on engine heat soak, fuel quality, etc.. Today the B&G peak tune numbers were 422HP/422TQ the PMT peak tune numbers were 414HP/413TQ tomorrow the number could be differnet base on conditions ..Hope this helps..
HotScott, I am basing all my comments on your previous post in other threads. You are pretty quick to attack PMT, so I was trying to nip in the bud. Thats all. Good day.
Thanks for your input Dave. I totally agree, my car has dyno'd totally different on the same dyno with the same tune, lol. I hate dyno's. The track will be in the equation soon enough. I have several tunes to try, cant wait.
That is some awsome information Dan. Thanks for taking the time to conduct the testing and I am certain that you will be happy with wwhatever tune you decide to use. gotta love being the test mule (pioneer).
The track is where it's at. I've had a couple rides out dyno me (same dyno too), but not out run me. I've heard it a few times and witnessed it first hand just this past weekend. That you can tune all you want on the dyno, she'll change on the street. Tune it on the street and it'll really come alive. Last week before we headed out for the Rumble, Trojan ride was laying down less power then me on the dyno. He had just changed his exhaust out to Zoomers and was all bummed out. Anyhow, on the way to the track he data logged the entire trip. Sent it to Josh at HOP, made changes to the tune with his handheld and did this for runs on the track. Just by doing this he gained 3/10's over what we ran like at Sac just a month ago.
