This is my first winter with the car. Is there any secrets or tips you guys have with not only proctecing the cars from any harsh things that could happen, or Tips with trying to drive in bad weather. I have always had 4wd. I know the fwd is pretty good, but i'm sure there has to be some tips for driving these cars. We just had our first big snow storm :cold: and I have to drive back home Thursday.
keep it out of boost in the snow, it should help you get or keep what little traction you have lol......
A lot of owners store their cars during winter and have another vehicle they'll drive for the winter. If its the only car you have then I can't stress enough TIRES. You'll see owners swap on their winter tires when winter comes around. So that's my suggestion. Get tires for the weather and drive easy with the car in the snow... if it can spin with water on the ground, it will spin with snow and ice. Be careful and take the proper precautions.
Try and take off in 2nd if you cant do it then take off in 1st but ride out on the clutch let the car start rolling then use throttle and try to stay in a higher gear that will keep you from going into boost alot of drag racers and street players like to run there tires at low airpressure around 25 or less, rase your pressure up to the factory recommended 35 or 5 psig higher, you might want to put your pressure higher because once the temp decreases pressure decreases yearly i run my pressure at 45 just drive with care and dont screw around in the snow and if people start honking and throwing your the finger because your driving slow just follow your line, you'll see them a block or 2 up the road spune out
my secret to driving the charger in the winter is i drive a Ram 1500 4x4 in the winter hahaha...i know that doesn't help though sorry haha
Wait so you raise the pressure and give yourself a smaller contact patch? That makes sense.:tooth: I think whitefw summed it up pretty well. Snow tires, no boost and remember you have anti lock brakes so let them do the work don't bother trying to pump the brakes. Aside from that just follow the basic rules for driving in slick conditions, give yourself plenty of stopping room, no sudden movements keep it gentle and fluid, use the engine to help slow you, do the exact opposite of what nevin says haha jk etc etc.
45 to 50 psi you still have the same surface area as you would at lower pressure ive tested that on the roadcouse thats why i have a set airpressure ive see the way 80-90% tire tread go down to 10% with even tread wear
i think everybody here has great ideas. mines a daily driver and i pussyfoot around in mine during rain/snow. take off in 2nd have winter tires and if you cant then just be careful.
I live in Missouri, so this isn't my first rodeo with the winter. I dont have to drive very often thank God, because school is walking distance. Yea one of these days when I graduate I will be able to afford to store this car for witner, and drive another, but untill then I' screwed! LOL. Thanks for the info, I didn't even consider trying to keep the car out of boost !! I can only imagine what it might be like. But is there any precautions that I need to worry about with the FMIC or the Turbo?? My biggest concern is messing something up!!
Not in rain/snow/ice Too much torque and power If you slightly mod them or heavily mod them they are even worst. Traction is an issue with these cars. Too much torque and fwd. You can still spin/roast the tires on dry pavement so imagine a pavement that is wet, has ice on it or has snow on it. So get the proper tires for the weather and drive the car easy.
now for a somewhat useful response...if you take it easy you should be alright...all my high hp rear wheel drive cars suck in the rain/snow/ice but just taking it easy and knowing the car got me through the winters before the 4x4...
All hail King Hijacker!! :king::spammer: I guess that makes me the court jester ... :bottom: Dahahahahhhahhaaaaa ...
True, true. I'm just givin ya a hard time is all bro, you know I love ya!! I figured you'd be on this thread, so how deep's the snow out there today? (just so you know it was upper 60s again here today with nary a chance of rain in sight!)
