I have had that several times. The traction control seems to go into a limp mode. The right rear tire will spin from 1st to 2nd and on.....the rpms will climb.......the vehicle will almost feel like it is struggling to pull through the rpm band. Cycle to engine off and restart........it should clear it up.
I think that the smoke was just white and I did notice that my coolant levels were quite a bit lower that they were before. What would make me burn coolant?
Blown head gasket. Is your oil milky and more translucent than it normally is? Are you sure it wasn't oil? Do you have a PCV catch can?
If it is not a head gasket you may need a new water pump. For some reason numerous 06 Jeeps have had to replace the water pump because it leaks slowly. Believe me I just put one in last week. Mine didnt even drip coolant onto the ground, but when I had it on the hoist the water pump was full of baked on coolant. Its worth checking out
No I don't have a PCV catch can or atleast I didn't put one on. How should I check the oil? Just look at the dip stick?
Interesting, I hadn't heard that one yet. Though it would explain why some people seem to eat coolant more quickly than others--those that just lose a bit at a time due to coolant spray via the cap.
I think you're going to have REALLY serious problems if you're getting white smoke out the exhaust from a bad water pump right? but the coolant loss might be independent of the smoke. more than one issue.
Its bolted directly to the front of the engine, It is basically the huge casted aluminum piece that covers the front of the engine. If you grab a flash light and look underneath your front bumper, and look up at the front of the engine, you will either see coolant on the water pump or you will not. If there is visual coolant outside on the engine anywhere, something is leaking, and my guess would be the water pump. If you dont see anything, the next time you take it to the dealer, have them take a look as well. Considering it is a lot easier to see any sort of leakage on a hoist
I'm the only one that I've read of that has had to have their water pump replaced already. Happended at about 10K. It wasn't the pump itself, but the main gasket that went bad I was told.
