I've searched and couldn't find a direct answer to this question...

What are signs of a fuel pump going out on a SRT-4?

I can't give you a qualified answer, but since nobody else has responded, I'd expect to feel bucking as the car sputters and the ECU pulls boost. If you had a scangauge you could watch the fuel pressure and knock retard to see if you were getting detonation for running lean, or if you had an A/F gauge and a wideband O2 you'd see it.

I have an AEM Uego Wideband and an Aeroforce Scangauge Pro I've been watching both and here's what I see...

At start up (idle) the wideband would go really rich then go really lean and stay in the lean range and it will stumble. Once I start driving it will then run the usual 14.5-15.3 sweep. Sometimes at a light it will stumble/mis-fire and hit lean and come back and correct itself. If I drive the car and its hot turn it off and start it back up it will sweep like across then correct itself to the 14.5-15.3 sweep at idle (which has always been the norm for months since I've owned the wideband).

I used to see 10.0-10.1 till redline... right now at 15psi spike I see 10.8-11.3 afr's by redline. Could be the weather but the lean stumbles to the mis-firing doesn't seem right.

MSD wires/Champion OEM plugs are only a week old and stock Coil pack only a few months old. I pulled the plugs today and the tips were white (lean). They used to be black covered with carbon.

0.0 knock on the wideband. I've resetted the pcm and all still the same results on everything stated above.

It goes lean so bad sometimes that it can't get a reading --- and wants to crap out.

Boost leak test has been done a couple/few days ago and no leaks found.

    No check engine lights.

I researched and people said its the fuel pump going out or the upstream O2 sensor being full of carbon. If it were the O2 sensor I would assume it would throw a code. I have S1 so the downstream O2 doesn't get any readings just needs to be plugged in.

I put fuel injector cleaner today in the gas tank to see maybe my fuel injectors might be clogged. They could be going bad or it just might be the fuel pump.

The Scangauge doesn't show fuel pressure. I keep it at all times on Knock Retard and Timing Adv. I did run through the other parameters today at idle to see if I noticed anything out of the ordinary but some readings I don't know what they should be at during idle and which ones might show anything on what's causing the lean problem.

the two easiest ways are if you have a wideband you'll start seeing very lean conditions uptop (12+), and you'll get some hesitation and misses while driving as well.

from what your describing it sounds like it could be the pump. especially if the plugs and wires have been changed already and you're still getting a lean stumble. the stock fuel pumps aren't so good anyway.

That's what I figured, its doing it on and off so its like the first signs of the fuel pump going out. Everyone I talk to today said the samething.

Looks like I'm ordering the Walbro 255 fuel pump tonight. It's been in my plans but I guess I waited too long. I'm going to see about getting it here before the weekend so I can install it.

Good idea to get a Walbro regardless.

Can't say I can offer much else though, but keep an eye on your A/F, that's about all I can say.

it's a good upgrade to do anyway. it's cheap and pretty easy to install and you can never go wrong upgrading the fuel system.

If your doing the fuel pump you should also buy a fuel filter and replace that too.

That's what I was thinking. Check the fuel filter first?

yea i thought you were talking about the internal one. there's really no need to replace the fuel filter unless you have high mileage. they aren't the problem, the pumps are. and forget $100 for the oem one, mr. gasket has one for like $50.

What? doesn't "bad" gas happen any more. Or crap on the pump nozzle you didn't notice from the last guy who dropped it on the ground or used it to scrap off his shoe? stuff like that.

Well, yea for water and that sort of thing. But it only takes once or a couple of times to plug your filter and then it stays that way. Maybe the symptoms don't really fit a plugged filter though.
