Marc submitted his resume to one prospect today. With any luck it'll turn into a month or more of contract work to wrap up some projects.
Okay, I figure I'll put my thread-bumping skills to work. Will be updating this thread on weekdays. Right now, Marc's resume is ready to submit. The career placement service through his work may help him to revise though, so I'll update when that happens. He's submitted it for an RTS position with one contractor and we're waiting to hear back. In the meantime, he's scheduling a date in the next few weeks to take some Avaya certification exams. I'm working to complete my Oracle SQL Query coursework in the next couple of days, then focus on my Project Management coursework. With any luck, I'll finish that up over the weekend and then revise my resume to reflect the coursework I've completed since 2006. I have less job experience than Marc, so we're focusing on getting him a job more than me. Still, I'm preparing to go back to work just in case.
A woman with a plan usually succeeds at whatever her plan is....and somehow, i don't think you will be any different Tam...keep up the good work, you have many cheerleaders among you.
Okay, added my work history and education to my profiles on Plaxo and LinkedIn. If you'd like to join my network, PM me for my email address.
Monday bump... Had a nice weekend. We went to Costco and loaded up on food and non-perishables for under $250. Went to the T&T at Talon's house and got the carbon fiber c-pillar covers installed. Taking Madeline to the doctor this morning for a check-up and its back to schoolwork and resume pimping. :bye:
Alright, Marc got a call from a former associate who works for a Bay Area contractor. He's submitted his resume and will be doing a phone interview tomorrow. *hopeful*
You're keeping a list of all these contacts, date, category, notes. right? One thing you're going to want to do if it's an ongoing effort is ping these people periodically. once every 3 weeks or something like that. Some sort of friendly bump that's not going to put anyone off "...Just wanted to let you know that I'm still looking. If you've heard of anything recently or someone else that may know of an opportunity..." You don't want to piss anyone off but they're not thinking about you all the time or they figured you must have gotten something or whatever. Get them in a chronological list (they don't all have to have the same "bump" interval). Every day or every week check the list to see who's bump timer has expired, send them a bump, and put them back in the list.
Thanks, Dave. I'm tracking in a spreadsheet and following something along those lines. Mostly just pestering Marc and keeping him active.
kick his ass out of the apt until he gets out at least 10 apps and 10 cover letters a day, he can set up shop at kinkos or starbucks. dont let him in until after the 10 or more are done. looking for a job is now his full time job. 8 hours a day. :miner:
Yeah...he pays the rent. I are a kept woman. Besides he's doing good. Looks like he may *knock on wood, prayers to appropriate deities* have this job in San Jose from what he's told me. May not pay as well as Avaya, but its income and its in his area of expertise (there was another term I wanted to use, but it escapes me). So he's talking to the tech guy tomorrow to see if he'd make a good fit. :flowers:
lol, it doesnt matter if he pays the bills or not tam! its a way to light a fire under his butt. if hes only making 1 or 2 contacts a day, thats not gonna do it. 10 a day. he will get a job.
You sound like you have a strong survivor mentality, my wife is strong like that, a survivor, you and your family will be fine, I pray for you guys! sorry to hear this!BLESSINGS!!
Marc got emails today from two contacts he made last week. The one confirmed she's passing his resume on to see about getting him hired onto a project for the short term. The other set up a time for his phone interview on Friday. So no job yet, but still hopeful. I've got one assignment and two finals to submit before I'm done with class work until 10/14 when the next quarter starts. I went to the doctor today and while waiting to get a glucose monitoring device installed, she did a cursory thyroid ultrasound and discovered a marble sized cyst on the left side. She's concerned that it may be solid, so she wrote me a lab slip for radiology. I'm getting that done on Friday also before getting the glucose monitoring device removed. Its going to be a fun day, I can tell already.
Alright, Marc has already submitted his resume to another business partner this morning and registered for outplacement services this morning, before I woke up. Tomorrow's the phone interview, and Monday is lunch with the guy who's setting him up with his CompTIA Convergence+ exam. I'm updating the contact spreadsheet at least daily.
if he isnt getting that convergence exam for free, id recommend he not bother. i have my a+, net+ and security+....with exception to the sec+, all are close to worthless. if hes dead set on trying to get certified right now, id recommend he go after the ccvp. honestly though, these tests are to be taken when you already have a job and want to further yourself in the position. studying will only take away time he should be using to find employment. the problem with comptia is the specialty shops are the only ones who care. compusa they me into all the testing for the three i have. though when i started interviewing i found out first hand no one outside of specialty consultants care and even they are wishy washy about them. meaning, you need a shitload of knowledge to back the cert.
He's just taking the exam as a formality. He's been working with convergence products for a while now. He's already got the Extreme certification and the CCNA. And initially he's only applying with Avaya business partners who would be interested in such things.
Alright, today is Marc's last day at his job. He's got a phone interview with a San Jose company in half an hour. Monday he's having lunch with an associate to discuss business and setting up certification exams. Wednesday he's headed to Walnut Creek to the outplacement service his company is paying for to discuss options and check out their jobs database. He's also got two resumes out there with other companies and will be making follow up calls next week.
