Viper engine from the inside out....

    Hey Daniel...welcome to the C.....and thanks for the heads up...and feel free to give some pointers on building the Vipers...wont hurt me a bit........your opinion that 7XX RWHP would be fine backs what I have been told...and that is as far as I plan to go unless I win a lottery...:bigwink:..I know there is more to do than just the rods & pistons if I went further so I'm pretty well done building the engine...looking at other areas now..tires, appearance, etc..

    Just a quick run down of the things I have noticed:

    1. Billet Main Caps missing: Needed for over 1000 Crank

    2. Studs on the mains missing: Should be on any build even thinking of 1000 crank.

    3. Grinding a crank to Chevy specs is a common practice, but you generally see the R/S ratio go in the toilet, weaken the crank, or end up with goofy piston compression heights, dome profiles, etc. Not to mention, you will never be able to approach the efficiency of custom parts with anything off the shelf. (note: for the custom tricks to work, Eagle Rods are out the window as well for other reasons)

    4. Piston Pins appear to be thin wall .927's... too small for a big power build. Viper engines make tons of torque, not high RPM's. Stout is the word, not light.

    5. Pistons appear to be running a STD 1/16-1/16-3/16 ring pack. There are MUCH more efficient packs than this, but you need some background to make them work too.

    6. The Roe Racing Heads retain standard type valves, guides, and seats. for HUGE power, heat retention in the valaves becomes a major problem, and must be addressed for any type of longevity.

    7. Pistons appear to be an "X" style forging. While light, these pistons are also weaker than a standard counterpart. Again, they are really the wrong application, a la Viper Vs. Chevy.
