To the guys running spray, when your rig shifts does it feel weird like it slips a little between gears? I get a strong 1-2 shift but the 2-3 and 3-4 feel weird like the converter isnt locked up fully? Is that what you guys are experiencing as well?

I use a window switch on 3500...off 6000 and I have not noticed any slugish shifts.

No idea about the Jeeps. When I installed the Predator CAI 91oct tune my 2-3 and 3-4 shifts (WOT) felt "spongy". Sort of a rubber band effect instead of a kick in the pants. For some reason they feel much firmer now? Do we have TCM adaptives?

This seems to be a common problem with the Diablo.......it's Torque Management combined with trans line pressure.......with my old ProMotion tune it shifted very hard and fast......no idea what they did but I liked it......my last tune for the current cam the shifts were so bad I took the Diablo off and put the B&G stage 3 PCM back in......problem solved....no more crappy shifts.
The bigger problem is if you let it continue you will burn up the clutches in the trans and destroy it.

I get it also. When I'm not spraying, the shifts are great. Dead firm, snaps the neck back. In 2wd mode, the tires bark on the 1-2 shift. With the spray the shift gets drawn out. Definately spongy.

    Firm 1-2 shift
    Horrible 2-3 shift.

    Join the crowd.

Tunes seem to differ, but it appears the canned Diablo tunes are somehow allowing too much torque managment and/or reductio nin line pressure during shifts.

In theory, the computers may be reading torque and thinking they are protecting the trans. In reality, they're letting pressure off the clutches and letting us start to burn them up.

    That's "in theory."

I'm having my transmission turn dompletely down and inspected next week. I'll take pictures of clutches, etc, to see if we can't get some solid answers.

Hmm thats kinda what I suspected except I am running a B&G nitrous tune. Off the spray the nitrous tune shifts hard in every gear but on the spray it lags??? I have tried setting the window switch to turn off before the shifts and then again where it never shuts off and it didnt make a difference.

Yes my 2nd and 3rd gear shifts are sloppier than the 1st gear shift. I wonder if short shifting would help anything, JMATT what are you shifting at ?

If your going by the kit recommendations they are sent out on the very fat side. I think I had to drop like 4 jets before I even got a reading above 10:1 a/f ratio.

This has been a problem for some time with our jeeps. Cobrakid advised me to switch to a manuel finger switch and to let off during shifts into 2nd and 3rd. This worked well. I also ran a practice run before I went to the track and blew 3nd gear, but it seems since I was not tied into the PCM, I was able to hold the button down without any shift problems in 2nd and 3rd.

Call me stupid but did you blow your gear while spraying during a shift or were you cutting off spray during the shift ?

Window switch on at 3800 and off at 6700, shifts at 6600, rev-limiter set at 7000. N2O on thru shifts. Shifts are precise, but I would not call them firm. I have the GSM Stage II TCM.

Dang how are you managing a 6600 shift? I have my window switch on at 3000 and off at 6500 shifts at 6300. Rev limiter at 6700.

Damn, how the fuck are you guys(Jeeps Only) getting these things to shift that high. I hate that my 1st shift is at 5900ish and could only dream of getting it to rev that high on the sauce. On the Dyno my HP numbers are still climbing when I hit 6200ish. I also think thats how you guys are going to blow the transmissions(My opinion) to hit the shift with 600ftlb tq is what is going to snapping things. My FJO quits at like 5875 and the shift occurs at 5900ish out of 1st and close to 6200 every gear after.

    You lucky bastards :surprise:

That's on my stock block. My cam doesn't really peak, just keeps pulling. I don't have a Jeep, by the way. Scott at GSM set it up with the Predator. I did the window switch setup thru trial and error.
