Hey fellas, since I've never used DR's before, (much less on 17's)....I had a couple questions I was hoping you could help me with. First off, I'll be using a floor jack to swap out my stockers for the 17's. I'll be running Mickey Thompson Et Streets (275/40/17). I'd like to lift the whole rear up at once but looking under the car briefly, I couldn't find a spot that looked appropriate. Should I jack up one side by the doors and trade wheels that way? One at a time? Also, tire pressure for the DR's? Anyone have any tips here? A good starting point? Thus far, there's only a 10% chance of rain, so it seems I'll be good to go. Gates open at 6pm and T&T starts at 6:30. I plan on stalling this baby right up to 2800 for the first time without going up in smoke. Wish me luck!
Milan: I have not found a good place to jack the entire rear either. I have gone as low as 15 lbs in the DRs. I have the Hoosiers and at 15 lbs. they look pretty squishy but so far no problems for me. I started at 18 lbs. and have worked down to 15 after about the 3-4th time at the track. It may be possible to go lower but I have not tried it yet. What DA did you run your 12.29 in? I predict 11.85 for you. Good luck and keep us posted on the results!!
Thanks alot Sam! You rock. I kind of figured I'd have to go from side to side but wasn't sure. I never did figure out the DA for that day. I know it was 75-76 degrees out and I ran at around 2:30pm. Humidity was at about 55. Track elevation is anywhere from 700-750ft according to a couple sources...one being the owner of the track. Man, if I can crack the 11's, I don't know if I'll be able to leave myself alone all night! I'm getting excited LOL. I'll start at around 18 and see how things go. Thanks buddy.
Thanks man, I'd like to reduce the learning curve on running these as much as I can since this may be my last time out this season....not if I can help it though lol... How many seconds do you guys take to heat them up? I know too much is not good as well.
Use the lower control arm and do each side one at a time. I start at 22psi and work my way down with mine. I tried 14 one time and spun the tire on the rim, and ended up glazing both the rim and tire. So after I took care of that problem I moved up with the pressue and start there.
Milan - Jack the rear end up by placing the jack under the rear differential. Yes - it works. No - you won't hurt the diff. Just need a typical aluminum racing jack to reach. Takes lots of little strokes until the car starts raising up a little and giving you more clearance. Now - on to the burnout. Yes, get the tires wet. But don't do the burnout IN the water box. Maybe spin them once, but then drive out of the water box before starting the burnout. Lots of guys screw that up. LOTS. Next, do the burnout and keep it going until you feel the tires start dragging the rpm down. At that point, let off the brakes and roll out of the burnout. Subsequent burnouts should be pretty short. Loooooooong massive burnouts look cool, but make drag radials greasy. Good luck!
