I want to buy a foamer but I've never owned or used one. Right now I use a garden chemical sprayer. Puts out a nice flat (gentle) spray and foams it a little bit. The idea is to soak the dusty/dirty car and let it soak a bit. The car wash soap works as a surficant and lifts the dust/dirt off the surface. Then I spray it off and wash as normal with a bucket and soap. What are the pros and cons of using a foamer? Are there different kinds of foamers? Do you have to use special soap with some or all foamers? Does your foamer replace your hose nozzle for after foaming? Whats the exact proceedure when using a foamer? Whats the best type? Whats the best one?
http://www.autogeek.net/pifofowagun.html This one was referred to me by a professional detailer for his home use and I love it, with foamers you pay for what you get but the idea is evenly distrubiting the soap/water, not using a bucket of dirty water that you basically are putting BACK onto the car and it cuts down on washing time. I have also been trying to master the California Water Blade (not the Gel series) but the original and it works in cutting down the drying time, oddly the best one out there you can buy at Wal-Mart.
Man at first I hated it but a pro detailer taught me how to hold it just right and level with the car, works great
Wal-Mart only has one kind? Is it called "California Water Blade"? I use a leaf blower (dedicated to drying the car only so it doesn't get dusty). Great for getting all the crevices and you don't touch the car at all. But I suppose it shouldn't have anything on it right after washing anyway. Just makes me nervous draging something across the paint. I do have problems getting to all of it before areas start to spot. Maybe I'll try that to quickly hit the big areas before the blower.
haha dave thats too damn funny dude. leaf blowdry the car.....the blade is def the way to go dude. you should pick one up.
Actually a dedicated leaf blower is one of the tools my buddy who owns Detailwerkz in Dallas uses. He only does high end rides, Dallas Cowboy football players rides, etc and he uses the water blade. Check out his site and some of his rides http://www.detailwerkz.com/
Na, I use my blower all the time, it saves a lot of time and works great. I saw a guy using one on his motorcycle one day and it struck me that's a pretty good idea, no different than what a car wash does. I dry mine first but then use the blower for all the nooks and crannies, there's lots of them on the Magnums and it saves a lot of time and aggrivation.:smart:
Definitely a concern. I wash in my driveway which is sloped a bit. By the time I get to drying, most all the dust is washed away and more importantly the driveway is still plenty damp. no problem. You do want to keep in mind where you're pointing the blower so you don't blast a bunch of crap off the edge of the lawn, hedge, etc.
haha, you lucky devils that actually get to live in a house with a driveway to wash your cars....i have to wash my car in the middle of the complex parking lot. too much dust and other shit, so i too have to soak everything down before i even drive onto the concrete.

Uh oh... I just did a search for "foam cannon" on Autopia... I might be reading for weeks. Seems there is a Foam Cannon that goes on pressure washers (only foam, disconnect for water). There are a hundred discussions comparing the Gilmour to foam cannons, with pressure washer or not, what soaps work best, CR Spotless (next on my list), etc. I did run into this... And dammit, I was at Target Sunday and they had a Karcher pressure washer (1600 psi?) on sale (ended Sunday) down from $130 to $80 but I've never looked into pressure washers. I guess it's a popular brand
http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=374509 The CRspotless will give you 30-40 washes on the filter I'm going by Lowes in a little bit to see if they have those foamers or over to True Value as they are all made by Gilmour and relabled at a higher price Lowes has the Karcher 1500PSI for $99.00 but could not find the foamer:erm:
Dave, just forget all this and go to one of those hand car washes you see pop up on the weekends where the girls where bikinis, you won't be dissapointed! (and no Wade, this time NO FAT CHICKS ALLOWED!! lol)
