Thanks Dave....Learning how to drive is one thing.....to bad the Navy hasn't sent me to a school on how to set my car up!!! Thanks Nevin....I hope you copied and pasted most of that! I'm in the process of making an EXCEL spread sheet with all the mods....YOU are nickle and diming me to death with all these good things. I called Modern Peformance to double check on the fitment of the harness and they said it would work!! I "think" the Pedders system is the only one for the 8's right now that you can dial in camber/caster with. Thats good stuff buddy! The site says it fits Brembo calipers....I wonder if that is ALL Brembo Calipers? This is a good thread....I only hope my EQ buddies don't come along and screw it up! Feel free to delete their posts if they do Nevin! LOL
(oops) I think this is the followon where they actually get into it and the actual parts, install, costs, results, and explanations. http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=56863
This isn't the article I was thinking of but it will get you started on brake fluid. I seem to remember that the tradeoff as you move to higher performance brake fluid is that it's prone to absorbing air and/or water more quickly and has to be changed more often. Or it just doesn't last as long... something like that. Important note in this article is don't let your dealer change your brake fluid. http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_brakefluid_1a.shtml
I see Momo hasn't done anything to track down that thread with the heavy duty 4 or 5 point harness in it. One thing I noticed at the TE was that the '08 seat bolsters are muuuch better than what we have (still not adjustable like they were in my T-bird SC).
Those are both some great reading and added to my favorites! Now I need to go back and read them again so I can fully digest them. I need to change my brake fluid and bleed them periodically from now on. Any suggestions on the type of fluid I should use? And, WHAT is the procedure for changing the brake fluid on LX's?? Thanks for the links Dave!
Ok I will add some info as we are more into the twisties than the straight line stuff around here lol! Lots of good info has already been posted! Here is my list of must haves/nice to do's Bleed Brakes before going to track..bleeding our brake is a breeze Replace stock fluid w/ higher temp fluid...I use http://www.bmcspeedshop.com/product_p/ate-sl6.htm Good tires-Ideally I think I will be looking for some wheels that will clear our Brembos that are wider and also possible 18" sicne most of teh good Road Race Tires come in mx of 18" sizes. If nothing else I would get another set of stock SRT wheels to use w/ good sticky performance tires. Coilovers-KW/Eibach/Pedders Sway Bars-Hotchkis Strut Tower Braces Good brake pads- and an extra set for the track if doing alot of laps. I love my EBC's Trans/Power Steering/Oil Coolers-Matt Robertson has a good thread on LX about these, and I plan on doing these mods. In fact we are stocking the B&M Tranny Coolers and Derale Power Steering Coolers and fittings to do this. I know I have seen very high oil temps at the track and I know several guys who have experienced power brake failure due to cooking the Power Steering, since they are linked together..not a good feeling to have no brake or steering at the end of a 100+ mph straight. Additional Brake ducting for front and rear would not hurt Water/Meth injection would be great to keep intake temps down on a hot day of abuse. The bushings etc from pedders look like a great addition as well. I also found some adjustable front upper control arms that look promising..more on those soon Obviously, if we get very serious Rollcage/harness bar is in order. Bigger Brake Kit etc etc etc That is all for now..more later
Kris, do you have a link to the tranny and PS coolers? I've already eyeballed the 3" 5 point harness, tranny temp guage, and brake fluid (I'll be getting these). Do you guys carry any good brake stuff...stainless brake line tubing etc?? Thanks!
Here is the Derale that Matt used for the Power Steering. http://www.bmcspeedshop.com/product_p/der-13257.htm Here is the B&M he used for the tranny http://www.bmcspeedshop.com/product_p/70264.htm We also carry the Stop-Tech SS Brake lines which is another upgrade I am planning on. http://www.bmcspeedshop.com/product_p/950.63004.htm http://www.bmcspeedshop.com/product_p/950.63502.htm We can also get all the fitting necessary to run the coolers as per Matt's Frankencooler thread.
Great suggestions Kris. Only one little correction. Yes the power steering pump takes a shit pretty regular. Having an extra one is not a bad idea, a little pricey, but it sure comes in handy when you blow one. But, it is not connected in any manner to our braking system. I've blown three, one in turn 8 at willow at a buck ten and the others during burn out contests. Oh ya, two more things. Our brakes are so eay to bleed it takes zero effort. The system will gravity purge. Just remove the master cylinder cap and open the bleed screw, hook up a hose and bleeder bottle and let gravity do the work. No muss, no fuss. There are 18 rims that fit over your brakes. The borbets fit no problem. Matter of fact my 17's I use for my DR's fit the front of Trojans ride with his super massive Brembos.
Thanks Kris for the links. I'll be calling you when I get a little closer to pulling the trigger for all the necessary fittings, etc!
I re-read a couple of Matt's threads where he recommended reading about stacked plate oil coolers in the thread (didn't find it). Anyone have any background on this! I don't want to ask him because he has already provided a shit ton of info!!
nope i typed all that out yup and check out the thread in this section im not sure who started but its where i got the link from it has more info in there about the speed bleeders and dont worry im watching them
tires, tires, tires. That should be the first in my opinion. You can put all the mods you want into your car but if you're not on good tires, it's a waste.
not necessarly i just adapt and over come i run on used tires that a place in ABQ hooks me up with for $20 each which keeps me on the track and even though im now riding on 4 missed matched tires with 60-80% tread, im still able to hold corners and run constinat times.
exactly but you have to compensate because of the mismatch probably whether you realize it or not. I mean changing from my junk tires to a decent tire forced me to change my driving style because of it and I'm much happier with the improvement. I mean if good tires performed just as good that way or just as good as cheap tire, well then you would see people driving all over the place with them in a competitive environment. Put on a set of wide bridgestone re-o1r's instead of a set of some junk sumitomo's and your times will improve (some with practice). I can put on a set of 195 wide junk tires and go to a track and be fine, but it won't handle well compared to a good tire. He is talking about what mods to go next. Well if he's got the money for the rest of the stuff why not go with better tires. It doesn't seem like a budget build. I mean the tire is what is making contact with the ground and you put your life on them, they can make or break you in a race/time attack whatever. Even in drag racing. Put some street tires on vs like a dr or slick and your times will change drastically. There's many more examples but I don't need to go overboard.
yeah i know what hes talking about but all im saying is if he wants more seat time working your way up in tires wont break his budget those big tires on the 8 arent cheap but yeah if hes got the change then he should get something good but i still say work your way up in tires first you'll learn more about what the car does
seat time will always be better than anything. The way it came off in the first post (which is all I read), was what mods next and then I saw a list of items. Idk how much seat time he's had but yes seat time would be more beneficial than any mod you can do to your car.
