So I've been thinking about how to get rid of that pesky wheel-hop issue I seem to have stubled onto. I hear it's bad and can break stuff, I also hear solid motor mounts are bad and can break stuff. (As well as make the car uncomfortable to drive as a daily driver.) Does anyone know if the motor mount inserts are effective, or would it be a waste of money?

I am not what I would call a serious autoX'er, I plan to run maybe 3-4 events a year. Basically just an excuse to turn the car loose. I am not looking to lose too much comfort, 'cause the wifey still will be riding in the car. More often than I autoX I might add, and I don't want her hating the ride more than neccissary. Any ideas beside slowing down, would be appreciated. The only mod I have that counts is Stage 1......

i have Inserts on mine and they work fine, it cut down on wheel hop
i dont have the tran inserts, and i can still feel the engine rock.
but im going to throw on some Bwoodys i bought
I havent heard about solid mounts being bad
but if you wanna wait and see what happens to me i'll let you know

Last year i was doing 2 autoXes, 1-2 roadraces, and 0-1 drag races in a month
    from Jan - Nov.

I went through 9 full set of tires last year

i haven't autoxed (yet) but i have had inserts and now have full mounts. the inserts don't even compare. if you're really worried about wheel hop a full solid mount is the only way to go. i haven't found the vibration to be bad at all, but that seems to be a personal thing. it's more about what your tolerances are for it rather than what it actually does to the car. i don't even notice any vibration at all in my car, but i have had people sit in it and then ask me how i can deal with the vibration. so it's really all about what you can deal with. i would suggest finding someone local with solid mounts and going for a ride to see if you can deal with it or not.

I'm not concerned about the ride for me, it's the Mrs. I'm concerned with. She is borderline about riding in the car as it is...... I think I'm gonna go with the interts, and a filled/solid trans mount, and see how that goes.

Where are you experiencing the wheel hop? (what conditions on the course?)

I want to get back into the auto-X.....I had lots of fun.

Didn't really have any wheel-hop issues, but I need some suspension work if I go back. The ONLY suspension done is Eibach pro-kit springs...and it shows...

Granted, the Auto-X I've done was in a big ass parking lot, but still had a blast.

I didn't notice anything unusual on the course, except that the parking lot at AMS was different surface than the first two places I ran(Turner Field). AMS seemed alot more bumpy, and more slick as well. The wheel-hop hit me, when I went from first to second. I've been given some advice to shortshift second, and that solid tranny mount, with MM inserts should help. I'm not too terribly concerned, as I only plan a few runs per year, but I heard alot more of this season will be run on surfaces more similar to AMS than Turner Field, and I just really don't want to break anything goofing off at autoX. I still need my car to get me too and back from work on a daily basis.

man that alot of flex and roll
throw on some strut bars they are a huge help

    Great pic as well!!! :thumb3:

    Edit:
if you go to your local parts store "autozone, pepboys" you can pick up some Energy Suspention Sway Bar end links
big help stiffing up the rear at $18

    Edit 2:
i see you have the non viper seats
you could also pickup the Schroth Harness 3 point/4 point detach from Modern performance
I have it in my wifes Cavalier
the harness detaches and stows so you can switch back and forth from the stock seat belt to harness,
connects to the driver rear pass seatbelt

Don't worry about it. I've got a line on a stock set of motor/trans mount, that I think I'll fill with the Flexane stuff. I'm gonna give that stuff a try.

    I changed out the mounts
the inserts are torn, your better off buying new ones i dont think the ones i have can be saved.

also there isnt alot of vibration with the new mounts
the car rides better you should just buy the whole solid mount set

First I'm gonna try the inserts, first. Then try the solid tranny mount if needed. Then lastly will try solid all the way around, if I'm still not happy......

I have the energy suspension upper and lower torque motor mount inserts, mine were in pretty bad shape, $26 off ebay, stiffend it up a bit, i think it grabs second a little better, but over all ride quality isnt affected

after doing a few AutoX runs, Off roading, and some road trips
the Bwoody solid mounts dont have alot of vibration.
you can notice it alittle but its not enough to cause an uncomfortable ride.
it rides quite nice accually and my wife doesnt mind the and now doesnt notice the little vibration it had.
