Hey guys, I could use some advise. What's the cheapest way to ship a car? My buddy in Vegas might buy my Mustang and we're looking into transporting it there. Sure he can fly out here to SJ and drive it back but he doesn't want to (time and air fare). I know there's professional transportation companies out there but aren't they expensive? My buddy priced some rental places for a truck and trailer and they're on either side of $500. Anyone know any cheap ways to transport a car??
uship Try the site uship.com I used it in 07 to ship two '69 mopars and was happy with it. It is a clearing house for small independent shippers that will bid on your request. I hooked up with a couple that travel the country in a 40 foot motor home pulling a 28 foot trailer and hauling all kinds of items. Cost was noticeably less than the traditional auto shippers.
Remeber that you get what you pay for...when I moved from CA to GA I shipped our second car, found a great deal, $800. When the car showed up, the car above mine was dripping oil all over mine, and the rode it all the way across the country with the drivers window down. The car was a mess, INSIDE and out!
Man that sucks. I agree though you get what you pay for, I'd rather pay a little extra and use a good carrier.
But price doesn't necessarily equal quality...you need to know who you deal with. I paid $1000 for a roller from Western Oaklahoma to southeastern Pa. and a second roller for $800 from Memphis to the same destination, not running cars are always more $$$ My two cars went individualy in an enclosed 28' tailer attached to the tranporter's house (ie. they were living with my stuff in their motor hometow vehicle) My two project car,s both not runing and with additional loose parts got the same care as the high dollar restored Packard these folks transported between my trips. Do your homework and you will not have a bad situation.
