http://www.motorauthority.com/news/coupes/dodge-adding-supercharger-to-2009-challenger/ This should be interesting. I wonder which aftermarket blower setup they will re-badge and sell for more! Found this in Edmunds: Speedfactory has already taken the wraps off its Vortech supercharger kit for the Challenger, which ups the 6.1-liter Hemi V8's stock 425 horsepower to 630 hp with the Stage 2 modifications.
I do not think that Chrysler or any other Auto Maker will put a Cintrifugal blower on as a Factory option. This will more than likely be one of the Twin Screws coming out soon???
it seems that speedfactory and Chrysler have some kind of relationship. Maybe they'll rebadge their vortech set up.
One more thing I'll miss out on this year.... Looking forward to pictures and detailed accounts from the show though...
My guess is it will have something to do with Steve Saleen's new company SMS, he is already developing a S/C Challenger, so i am sure this will work similar to the Ford Products when he was at Saleen. They will build full cars and also sell the S/C as a dealer or aftermarket installed option. Speedfactory just used one of the current Vortech Kits, not that it couldn't be rebadged as a Mopar product, I would doubt it though. Plus there would be no need to wait til 09 to release it since the product is already out. JMO.
Well, from tidbits I've gathered here and there about our Vortech setup, is that it SHOULD produce somewhere around 575-600 hp at the engine, 490ish rwhp... WITH the ULTRA CONSERVATIVE Vortech-supplied tune. But, like Rick said, Mopar will rebadge it, and charge another 10%... BUT... if someone can FINANCE the additon of a blower into their loan... well, this opens up a world of possibilities for normal folk! AND, the factory warranty would still apply... Hmmm... I wonder now... Vortech is basically giving us R&D guys a factory warranty 3/36,000... apparently gentlemen, there's something to all of it! If all those conditions fall into place... GO MOPAR! EDIT: I just told my wife about what might be in the works between Vortech and Mopar... guess what she said? "Yeah, and you probably would've gotten it cheaper (if the dealer had done it)..." Ah, my wife, ever the Mod pessimist!
kris, i believe you are correct (if it really happens). jason it would be marked up at least 35%, has anyone ever priced a quaife from mopar!
We're still waiting on a written warranty right? I'm guessing only the blower and blower parts are covered. I think that's great. Never seen a 3/36 on aftermarket parts like that, but I don't think they're going to cover engine internals. The factory certainly would. I had a twin screw on my T-bird SC (crap, had it for 16 years and can't think of who made the blower). There's probably going to be a big delay because the mfg didn't get enough totally STOCK cars to do their R&D testing on...
hahahaha You guys kill me. Reread that article. They only used the Vortec Challenger as an example. They never stated that it was going to be for sure. lmao Like I said, IMO, I do not think any Auto Manufacturer would use a Centrifigal Kit. Why? 1) Noise levels 2) not an easy bolt on item... I would bet that one of the few Twin Screw designs that are currently being developed have secured the contract with Chrysler. Again, IMO.
