Okay, I picked up a pre-owned SCT tuner for the SRT-10 and have decided on tunes from Roe Racing. I get 3 tunes for $200 w/tech support. (pretty good deal, no?) So, here's the truck basics: - Normally aspirated w/cat back - Still has cats, but catless mids are coming very soon. - Normally run 91 octane; great local source found for 94 octane. - Daily driver. Here are the tune options I'm considering: TUNE PACKAGE 1 - Valet tune (RPM's no higher than 2000; speed no higher than 30 mph) - 91 octane w/cats - 94 octane w/cats TUNE PACKAGE 2 - 91 octane w/cats - 91 octane w/o cats - 94 octane w/o cats TUNE PACKAGE 3 - Valet tune (RPM's no higher than 2000; speed no higher than 30 mph) - 91 octane w/o cats - 94 octane w/o cats What's the vote?
Package 2 since you probably rarely have the truck somewhere where someone else will be driving it...
Is it assumed that all the above include "no tune"? meaning you always have the option to revert to stock? If so, definitely package 3. Valet tune for stuff like parking at grandma's for turkey dinner and someone needs to move the truck to get out or something -- don't ever let an actual valet drive the truck... talk to Ron about that. (I don't remember there being any valets in OH when I was there).
Quick- I actually drive the truck outside of OH regularly....where they have valets, and hot/cold running water, shoes, etc. I've been at several places where a valet tune would have come in handy (hotels, restaurants). It's partial distrust, but also that the truck can kill you dead pretty damn quick. Handing over that kind of power isn't really a great idea. The chances of bad things happening are extremely high. IIRC, the SCT technically has (4) tune 'slots', with one being automatically mandated for the Stock settings upon initial use. I'll double-check that.
Definitely package 3 then. The w/o cat tunes should only differ from the with cat tunes by having some extra fuel. So you should just be running a bit rich until you get the cats removed. (it'll burn up the cats a bit sooner than they would otherwise if you're planning on saving them though).
