TB gasket should I put RTV on the gasket or not? The gasket that came off did have any on it but I was always taught to put RTV on all gasket.

I didn't put RTV on my heads and now I have a head gasket leak so is it me or did I do the right thing with not putting RTV on the head gasket it's only on the passager side the gaskets are all metal can anyone help me? This weekend I'm changing the head gasket again so i want to do it right this time any help would be very helpful.

If u do just use a super thin layer so that it acts like a glue to hold the gasket on

never put RTV on the t-body gasket. As far as the head gaskets, they have a spray on sealer for that. But not RTV.

Why say never, Cause there's times where just a plan gasket just won't work. I can understand using a ton is a no no but using a super thin layer should be ok

If it is a quality gasket then it will be able to seal without any help as long as your parts are not damaged. The only time I would ever think of useing RTV is for a gasket that has a water port without an o-ring, but a quality gasket would come with the o-ring.

It's an O-ring, you don't use RTV sealant on O-rings. Nor do you use it on head gaskets. Where ever you learned to put RTV on everything...unlearn it.

No on both, and double NO on the head gasket. You can spray some copper sealant( http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-80697-Copper-Gasket-Sealant/dp/B000HBNUDQ )if it makes you feel better, but isn't required.
Be sure your head gasket are on the correct side and right side up. Also be sure you torque the bolts in correct sequence and amounts, if you do, you should not have any issues.
