This is the latest as of 1/5 Gathered a ton of information from NJMotorsportspark.com today. We are going to have this rental there and most likely going to use the Lightning course. Initially I wanted to use the Thunderbolt course but it seems its a pretty technical course. For our first time out I think we should get on a track thats not gonna kill our cars and brakes. Lightning course is 2 miles long and allows for higher speeds. [youtube]6_6T7CzShJw[/youtube] Thunderbolt course is 2.25 miles long but much more technical (harder on your car). [youtube]sowVGe3RoVI[/youtube] Overview picture The lightning course is 2 miles long and actually allows for much higher speeds than the thunderbolt. Ill start a poll shortly for dates and course. I have not commited to either course and both are available to us based on the date we choose. Pricing has a huge variance based on day of the week and time of the year. Weekends are out because you have to commit to a 3 day event. Not something Im willing to do and thats way out of our league. Doing it on a Monday is probably going to be best reference pricing and the fact it might make it easier for those that have to travel down the day before. A monday in March is $3000 cheaper than a Monday in April. Monday March 30th is available. Monday April 6, 13 and 27 are available as well. Pricing is going to be based on the date we chose and the number of cars we get to participate. As of now Id say plan on $250 a person to be safe. The track is going to cost between $5,000 and $8,000. Then we have to pay for an event insurance policy, track workers and instructors. According to the track director, that will cost us around $3000. He recommends we hire 10 instructors minimum and will put me in contact with them for rates etc... I am realizing this is more than a one man operation like the 1/4 track rentals I setup. I have asked RobAGD to help us with the whole endevor, well more or less told him he was helping me Our next step is to set a date/track. I will start a poll with a pretty short voting window. Will we be broken down into driver groups and have instructors with us? I drive the wheels off my Bee and if your first time road racing having a car on your bumper can be nerve racking. My track season starts April 13th so this might be worth the 13 hour drive from Chicago.
We are going to attempt to break this down as best we can. as it stands with 44 people on the list I would say less than 10 have had on track instructor level stuff. The rest are I am guessing newbs. I am working to get instructors, The first laps will be kinda of instructional / parade style laps for people to get use to the track. I need to get a ball park on cost for a few things still, Instructors is a big one next is timing equipment. There will only be point by passing in the straights, I will have the workers Meatball people that are being dickheads. we want this to be a fun and safe event, no bending up the fenders and the like. There have been a few more additions to the attendance list and we'll update it shortly. We also have a few sponsors lined up and hope to announce them shortly. Rob and I are still working on the final cost and itinerary. With the help of sponsors we believe we will be able to keep the costs at where we had initially projected. Once we have our insurance quotes and instructor quotes, the rest is just showing up and having fun If anyone is considering this, its going to be a great time and we are doing everything possible to make it a total success.
