I hope Dodge makes the Srt8 Ram with the 6.4 L powerplant............that would get some attention fast.
They kinda lost me on the Rams after the last refresh a few years ago. They suddenly looked like fords/toyotas after that. Bleh. I like it when Dodges are instantly recognizable in traffic. Oh well, at least they're not immediately going the Chevy/GM route.
I don't understand why they are not using the 6.1L for these. If they don't want to call an SRT then don't just put the bigger engine in it and make it something special. It's like what they did with the RumbleBee and Daytona Pickups. Stickers and wings still just SLT Ram underneath. I had a Daytona for awhile and it irritated the crap out of me that it was just a standard truck with badging. Big deal.
I saved myself $15k by not buying a daytona and just getting all the "daytona accessories" and throwing them on my truck like hte viper hood and side steps haha
Hotchkiss'll come out with a superior lowering/stabilizing system to make handling even better. I ordered my Ram for the same reasons...2WD, shortbox etc. and even though the old 5.7 produces only 345 h.p, friends were always amazed that I usually could hang with them in mountain twisties (protesting tires but no ditches). IMO, I think the '09's a good looking truck and I'd get an R/T again if I needed another one, lower it, shave it and change the exhaust configuration to make it a little less red-neckian (too many guys do that type of exhaust on trucks aftermarket...but I guess that's what Dodge was thinking...) Q: Why though, did the front headlight treatment remind me of a V-6 Mustang!?
No matter to me as I' won't be getting one anytime soon (truck phase of life gondi). But who could blame Hotchkiss...probably far less demand for a handling kit than lift kits for a majority of the good ol' boys that'd prefer 4x4's anyway.
I like it. 5.9 for 0 to 60 is nothing compared to our 5.2 but that is a very good looking truck and 390 h.p. from the 5.7 is quite impressive. I wonder aloud if their "dual exhaust" is really. Two into one into two is not true duals. Ours is an example of fake duals and one reason I want to pull off my muffler and replace it with two pipes, giving it real duals, finally. The exhaust indentations into the bumpers is starting to grow on me. I saw one here recently and first impression was negative. The new truck lacks the fake scoops and other crap too many add later. It is subtle and could use a functional hood and two 6 speed trans, manual and auto, but a decent pkg. nevertheless. Not an SRT10 replacement but still quite nice. Their 4.7 now has over 300 h.p. and I wonder how their basic Work Truck model with a 4.7 and 6 speed manual would do against the expensive auto R/T.
i actually think it looks better! for those that think it takes from the lx line for some of its looks...... i thought i heard raplh gilles was involved in the design aspect of this.....might explain a few things...... that is if he was in fact involved!! lol
