Hey all, long time no talk too. Hope all finds you guys and gals well. I just wanted to make you aware of an issue that I am personally dealing with. The subframe on my car is broken in half and the local Chrysler dealer is refusing to do the warranty work and not even submit it. Here is the link on 300C: http://www.300cforums.com/forums/srt...st-likely.html Here is the link on LXforums: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showth...ight=cbutler32 All the pics are on both. Why I am reaching out is I have found out that there are 2 SRT's in Canada that have had this same issue so far. Has anyone gone through this problem? And if you are driving your SRT hard - please check or have some check your rear cradle. There seems to be an issue that we as a community are just finding out about. Thanks and happy motoring to all. Hopefully, I will be at Spring Festival #5 with my car to see all that are going. Sincerely, cbutler32
Here's the lxforums thread: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=199406 Considering how many of us have driven the crap out of our cars and that its been four years since the '06s, yeah I'd be getting the cars up on lifts and getting a look around. Chris: What's your build date and any chance you have the build dates on the Canadian SRTs?
Well, yeah I'm assuming that since its an '06 model. Just wondering if maybe its a "bad week at the factory" issue, in which case narrowing down to build dates might help the rest of us out. I'd rather find this via inspection than personal experience.
I think I'd want to wait for the root cause analysis before sending out the general alarm. I suppose it's possible the subframe just broke in two but it could well be some particular part/failure that let to a chain of failures/events that broke the subframe. I doesn't sound like his dealer has much on the ball though...
That and I would be heartsick if I had to junk my Charger over a defect. I'm subscribed to Chris's thread over on LXf, will bump this thread when he updates his thread.
Don't panic just yet. Even if there's a problem with the subframe a little pre-emptive duct tape should make it just fine.
he needs to call chrysler himself and explain the issue. Rear subframe cracking like that is a "known issue" even on bmw's. Does not surprise me its breaking on 425hp lx's.. The dealer needs to have a valid reason for denying warranty. Sometimes some the techs can be idiots
I'll have to look it up. I mean I'll have to reach out to ResumeSpeed. They usually are on the ball. But something is not right. I am reaching out to find out how many others. As I have found 2 in Canada. Trying to see if there is a "problem" bigger than my own. Called them today at 12pm pst and filed the complaint. Told I would hear from them by 3pm pst tomorrow (tuesday). The dealer (service advisor) did not tell me a valid reason. Even suggested I should contact my insurance company to file a claim instead. Which is insurance fraud. Nice recommendation huh? As for the tech - he completely missed that the frame was cracked in half just to the left side of the bolt attaching the pumpkin and the subframe. So not to impressed that this was the same tech who did the inspection 3 week ago and released the car to me.
Build date is on that sticker inside/on your driver's side door. The sticker that lists what your tire pressure should be.
Geesh, this is scary! Hope it is just a "fluke" and hope you get this issue resolved and repaired correctly. I'll be watching for the results!
found a 4th car yet haven't talked to the owner??? meh, 4 cars out of over hundreds of thousands built, not what I would call an epidemic. Sure, there should be concern, but then again, I know exactly how YOU drive Mr Chris. lol Good luck on the repair.
DUH!!! If I had the car, don't you think I would have looked for you already? Luv ya girl!!! I'll look when I visit the vehicle next. Pretty sure it was the last couple weeks of June. ok found it over on 300C - post was from 7-1-2005 Build Date: 6/29/2005 hour 16 - that was from Resume Speed
Ha ok! And as for the number of suspected cases versus number of cars. There were maybe 20,000 SRT LXes built in any one year? Not "hundreds of thousands". So yeah, I know, no need to freak out just yet. Just something to keep an eye on.
um Tam, the subframes are the SAME on ALL LX platform cars. Doesn't matter if its an SXT, RT, or SRT, they are the same. Even if the they were, 4 cars out of 20K is still hardly an epidemic.
Any commonality between the cars you've found with the problem so far? How similar was the failure? Year? Model? Mileage? Mods? etc? HP?
to my understanding Dave, the four cars are, 2 - SRT 1 - R/T 1 - SXT But that is second information I just gave. Could be wrong?
