As a few have discussed on another thread we seem to have a "clunk" in the rear. I had Overbeys tear down my rear end to examine the lash. Turns out it was in perfect shape. The gears were wearing nicely, the splines and shafts were perfect as well. We attempted to find a posi unit since these are "peg leg" drive. Well no such luck and the only option for positraction is a different rear end. Back to the "clunking" ......it the light weight two piece aluminum drive shaft! Overbeys is very familiar with this since the same problem exists on the Chevy Tahoes/Sububans with the two piece aluminum driveshaft. The center that moves in and out also moves side to side internally. It uses gease to lubricate and absorb the shock. Mine was full of aluminum chips either from manufacturing or wear. It was cleaned and repacked and the noise was eliminated by 80%. I still have the faintest bit of it but it is MUCH more tolerable. It appears that no aftermarket driveshaft exists due to the ends that are not available. The only option is to cut the ends and fabricate a steel one piece driveshaft. BuilderBill or Western did hear this??? .
Im very interest in a driveshaft as well! the one weak link I have. Congrats on narrowing it down Steve! Hope all is well!
Probably replaced it with a chromemoly design. Actually builderbill is making me one right as we speak.
