Testing has begun to try and find an iPod adapter that will work with the RB4 or RB1 headunits, and still allow use of the factory-installed UConnect hands-free system. ========================================= TEST DATE: 3.29.09 VEHICLE: 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 (Regular cab) HEADUNIT: RB4 IPOD ADAPTER: InDash PC's GROM iPod Adapter v2 RESULTS: - Does NOT control iPod. - Does NOT play iPod. - Does NOT allow use of UConnect. - Disables all steering wheel controls. - DOES charge iPod. NOTE: I did contact the company prior to the test and they informed me that they knew it did not work on the RB4 systems. I tested it just to make sure. What InDashPC tries to do is use the CD Changer feature on the headunits as an iPod control. When an iPod is plugged in, the Changer mode comes up on the screen.....but nothing works (including the steering wheel controls). The audio from the iPod *does* play at a very low volume for about 1/2 a second before going away. UConnect does not work at all. No incoming. No outgoing. No display. (Probably due to no power) ========================================= RB1+UConnect and RB1+UConnect+iPod tests coming soon!
========================================= TEST DATE: 4.11.09 VEHICLE: 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 (Regular cab) HEADUNIT: RB1 IPOD ADAPTER: InDash PC's GROM iPod Adapter v2 + Y-adapter cable for Chrysler vehicles. RESULTS: - Does NOT control iPod. - Does NOT play iPod. - Steering wheel controls for iPod DO NOT work. - Does allow use of UConnect. - DOES charge iPod. - DOES allow use of UConnect. - Steering wheel controls for Radio DO WORK. - Steering wheel controls for UConnect DO WORK. When switched over to the iPod (CHANGER on the display), the radio *tries* to kick in as you can hear it clicking away rapidly, but it just doesn't happen. If you crank the volume up via the knob on the HU, the track playing on the iPod can ***barely*** be heard. I tried every possible scenario regarding connecting, powering, and selecting. Nothing worked to get the iPod heard and/or controlled. For grins, I tested the RB4 with the Y-cable. Same results as above. I will be returning the adapter and Y-cable. My quest for something that f-ing works properly continues...........
