I need some help with a problem car that I have bin working on at my dealer. I have an 06 GC with 50k on it . customer complaint is, vibration and wheel bearing type noise at high speeds. nosie and vibration comes up at about 85mph and gets worse around 105mph and is gone over 110mhp. yes i know this is not reasonable speeds but im not giving up on fixing it. Noise and vibration is only there when a load is put on in N and off gas at thoes speeds noise is gone. I have so far installed both driveshafts due to bad ujoints and still preoblem there, did a L/f wheel bearing and still there. just rebuild rear due to metal in fluid repalcing pinion bearings and carrier bearings and still no good. i jsut decided to do roadforce on the wheels and found 2 were over spec and im going to rec tires to the customer anyway. the 2 rears are at point of replacment and the fronts are good other than one being out of spec. My question is have any of you guys/gals had any problems like i have. I know the GC had driveshaft problems and i know tires are iffy on these jeeps. I want to see what elts is goin on with other jeeps Thankx for reading and hope i can get this fixed ASAP its killin me
There are alot of guys with this issues and vary on the fix, mine was rear driveshaft and tires and finally finding someone who knew how to use the Hunter correctly to balance them. Im leaning towards getting new tires and having them roadforced correctly, also did you index the front and rear driveshaft to the srt specs? On the tires, alot of guys are going to the 275 fronts and 315 in the rears which are very hard to balance and our driveline picks up on the smallest imperfections on the tires. Another issue is the output shaft coupler/yoke assembly go bad on most apparently the splines to the transfer case can strip.
i dont need to index the DS due to tires are stock RS-A's no difference in size, and im the one who knows how to roadforce and balance at my dealer verywell havent had a disapointerd customer yet lol.
Have you checked the inside of the front Goodyears for the tread seperation ALL of the jeep guys get it, the inside of the tire will start to seperate and cause issues. Also when your at the speeds when you feel the vibration have you thrown it in Neutral to see if it still is there or bumped it down a gear?
thank you for all ur help guys. tires are not seperating at all. in N and off gas noise and vib is gone coupler? as in trans case?
ok well i re mounted one of the tires (l/f) due to forcematching it and rebalanced it. the R/R is still out of spec for the roadforce. customer took car and said its 98% better he will be getting new tires and has a prorace shop doing them due to how perfect there machines will banalnce the tire he says. thankx for everyones help
Question for you since you use the GPS 9700 machine. What do you consider bad for a Road force balce in pounds and inches? The reason I ask is cuz my Jeep has a bad vibration from 60 MPH on up to 120 and higher. The fronts on my Jeep are at 6 lbs. of Road Force and the rears are at .023 and .025". The reason the rears are in inches is because at the place that I took the Jeep to they checked them for Road Force, but the machine reports it in inches and not pounds. Thanks!!!
Transfercase Does the sound get worse or go away when you press the Traction Control switch? By either turning it on or off does the "wheeling bearing noise" get louder or less. Either way if that does affect the sound......I would check the transfercase. Chain could be loose/worn or clutch basket could be contaminated. .
