    Ok.

Almost no wear after more than 13k miles.

You can see how clean the top of the piston is where the head gasket was starting to leak.

Well, that's good news. But I always hate to see a HEMI on a stand if its not getting upgraded. Any new goodies to help justify the labor?

I am leaning toward the studs have a different torque than stock bolts. I was wondering how you can re-torque the head bolts when the last torque is a 90 degree angle. Looks like it might be a straight 65-70lbs. Should know within the hour. As far as the work, it isn't too hard. The motor is still in the car. I was curious anyway about cylinder wear having a 4.09 bore and all. Looks great after 13k miles and I have been beating on this motor. The dyno came in at 484.13rwhp and 500.71rwtq. G&S Motorsports did the CMR for my Predator.

Unbelievable. The head torque with ARP studs is 35lbs then 90 degrees then 50 degrees. How in the world are you supposed to check your torque? The service manual says 40lbs then 90 degrees. Anyone who followed that ought to at least turn them another 50 degrees.

Carl, just so I get this straight. Anyone who used ARP studs should turn them another 50 degrees or people who used new Chrysler bolts should torque them another 50 degrees?

    Stock torque specs:

    25ft lbs
    40ft lbs
    90 degrees

    ARP studs torque specs:

    35ft lbs
    90 degrees
    50 degrees

We are talking the big bolts. The little ones are the same for both stock and studs. They are 25ft lbs.

Head gasket. I have replaced both sides and decided to check the torque specs in case the stud torque specs were higher. Indeed they were. I may have popped head gaskets due to the lower stock torque specs I used previously.

Carl, the 90* final turn for the torque to yield on the stock bolts works out to be around 90lbft.......give or take 5lbs

So then on the studs we have 5ft lbs less as a starting point and another 50 degree turn. You think it might be in the 105ft lbs range?

wow thats funny I just changed mine and andy said he never heard of a 426 yet with head gasket leaks. I had small leaks on all my cylinders, and was getting in to a limp mode at higher rpms Now tat I have fixed it there is not a problem, Although My car has a nasty misfire at idle. any one else have that

Is it the multiple misfire with check engine light? If so, I think everyone with a healthy cam gets that code. If it is a misfire you can hear, that was one of the signs that made me believe I had a bad head gasket. I pulled the plugs and one was cleaner than the rest (steam cleaned). If you have a misfire, the three turns of the key after the idiot lights go out will tell you which cylinder. It will say like P0307 for cylinder 7 in my case.

Not sure Carl........torque a few down and then start with 70 lbs on the torque wrench and work your way up in 2 lb increments till doesnt immediately click.

We had to replace a couple of valve seals on your motor is what I found weird. Your head gasket went before carls, his just happened about 10 days ago.
