here is the stock airbox as you see it in a GT Cruiser
    [IMG]

theres ways to improve on the stock airbox with out damaging it.

    first remove the side snorkle
    [IMG]

    its a big restrictive piece

next remove the tube running from the airbox to the turbo.

if you look in side you will see that it bottle necks from 3in down to around 2in in side the tube. it would be better just to make your own replacement from parts found at Pepboys or Autozone.

once you have the tube off you will see a white plastic piece.
remove it i dont have the pic of the white plastic piece but
when you look in side you will see it.

removing those two pieces will help improve airflow and doesnt cost anything.
but if you want to make the best of it. then make your own intake pipe.

there are aftermarket intakes out there but this is for someone on a low budget.

    EDIT:
the guess work on the piping has been taken out.

new Air Box to Turbo pipe

Boy, those stock ones sure are restrictive looking. seems like R&D would have done a little better than that.

alot of people just remove those 2 pieces and replace the pipe with an alluminum pipe and just run them that way.

I accually had enough left over pieces from my wife old Cavalier intake that i just reused everthing and made a new one.

Curious, that big restrictive piece that goes into the fender. Doesn't that channel cold air from the fender well?

How do you remove the white plastic piece in there?
Just break it out? I see the top portion easily snaps out.
Edit: I just broke it out

I want to do a boost leak test but I would hate the break something. In your pictures it looks like that line stays attached to the bottom near the turbo. Its a PITA to pull off lol.

How does the lower portion of the airbox come out? Does the battery need to come out to get that out?

Yeah i broke off my white resonator piece too and threw it away before i made this thread.

Some advise. You will break some lines. their plastic and get brittle. buy some hoses and vacume Tees so when they break you have them on hand to repair or replace.

That 4 way with that yellow circle when i removed mine i replaced that whole pipe and vacume hose with an aluminum pipe and used a 3/8s bolt (or equivalnt size) to plug up that hold and ziped tied it so it wouldnt leak. I later replaced that bulky 4way with a 3way vacume tee to clean it up.

As for the snorkle, you can leave it or you can remove it. I've been in the fendor and there isnt much room its pulling cool/cold air from so i removed mine to get what air i could.

As for the bottom part of the air box. there should be some bolts holding it down. No the battery doesnt need to come out.
