Well, I am starting a build on my SRT 4. I don't want to hurt a stock engine again, so i decided to build an old block I have lying around. I tore the block down and found the cylinder walls to be in perfect condition. None the less i opted to go .020 over with a custom wiseco 9:1 dished piston. i will also be using Eagle H-beams. Why 9:1 ??? because i want more naturally aspirated power to build off of.. I don't want to run the ungodly amount's of boost people run in these cars. so 20psi should do the job as a high boost setting with the 9:1 .020 over pistons.. i will keep this thread updated and adding pics of my progress.... My psitons arrived today, have had the rods for about a month now.
good deal.. yeah the 8.1:1 or w/e the SRT has is pretty low.. 9:1 is a very boost friendly ratio.. i was pushing 12 psi on a t3/t4 in my tiburon, and i was running STOCK 10.3:1 compression for about 2.5 years with no problems and only street tuned by me. theres a guy on my tiburon forums with stock 10.3:1 compression pussing 300whp for the last 20,000 miles at 15psi. too bad ill be out of NM by time you probably get the build done.
the only problem with running such a high comp ratio on the srt is that the PCM shits itself trying to control timing.
o, i guess i was assuming he would probably be going with a standalone or something piggybacked not having to worry about the PCM. seems like the SRT is a pretty fussy SOB when it comes to its PCM. i had full control over my timing and fuel, so i didnt have to worry about my ECU.
well most factory pcms are very fussy seeing that they are programed to operate within a certain range. when we start dicking with all the parameters it stops knowing exactly what to do. this brings up a good question for billy, what are you going to be using for timing/fuel? EDIT: i thought of a couple more questions for you billy, are these pistons going to make the motor an interference motor? what ring end gap are you going to use with the higher compresson? did the pistons come with the chromoly rings or the Nitrided/Napier Steel rings?
i had the pistons cut for extra large valves so clearance will not be a problem. as for the rings the compression ring will be gapped at around 19 thousandths. and i believe they are the standard N/N rings
here is a list of everything i am planning on running in this engine BOTTOM END wiseco .020 9:1 pistons eagle rods w/ arp bolts complete balance and blue print mopar factory main and rod bearings factory mopar bottom end gaskets dcr crank scrapper and windage tray HEAD WORK stage 3 port work BC 3 cams ferrea (sp) valves factory spec cant decide on what springs i want to go with. DCR head studs DCR 5 layer head gasket FUEL & MANAGMENT ago returnline W bottle neck fix stock fuel rail RC 750 cc injectors AEM EMS fuel pump rewire coolingmist meth injection also am plannin on fabbing up a custom intake mani just depending on the time i have left.. we will see if i decide to or not. my stock ported mani should do just fine though.
i dropped my block off at the machine shop today, they are going to do my .020 over bore, balance and blue print and check my crank. should have it back mid to late next week..
good luck, hope all goes well. i have a buddy that is gettin his srt-4 built at ams in chicago, il. he has ran into all kinds of nightmares....sorry not tryin to curse you or anything lol
