I installed the Predator 91 Octane + CAI tune on my 300C SRT8. The car runs good, but I tend to hear some pinging/knocking from the car whenever I get aggressive with the throttle at low speeds. Before the Predator tune, I never had this problem.

I've tried switching gas between Chevron, Shell and 76. Nothing makes a difference. Is there anything I can do to fix this? It makes me cringe every time I hear it. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

With late model cars and their ever more sensitive knock sensors, there should never be a case where you can actually hear detonation, but it is possible.

I see you list a catch can as a mod, it sounds like before it went on, you collected a bunch of oil in your intake manifold.

Look into cleaning it out, or wait for it all to run out, as having oil in the intake charge will always cause KR.

Thanks for the response. The car only had 9,800 miles on it when I got it and added the BT catch can. Before the predator I could go WOT at any speed and there wasn't any issues, regardless of the gas I used. After the Predator tune (which I double checked and I do have the 91 octane + CAI tune) the car does ping at low speeds and aggressive throttle use. To be honest, the time when I hear the pinging is when I'm next to a wall, a high curb or going down an alley. On the open road I don't hear it (probably has something to do with the Zoomer exhaust)

You mentioned cleaning the intake. Even though I know I could, I don't want to tear apart my "new" car. How long (miles/time) will it take to clear out the oil from the intake with just normal driving?

    Thanks again for the advice.

It could take a while for all of the trapped oil to work its way down in to the chambers.

Try adding a bit of fuel to see if it overcomes the ping, and then if you want to be sure, find some high octane (100 or better) and run it through the car, if it still pings, it is definitely not tune related.

How do I add some fuel? Are you suggesting I modify the Diablo tune?

My car will ping audibly when lugging the engine. I have my scan gauge configured to display up to a max of 9* KnR and it goes over that (actually, I'm under the impression that the PCM only adjusts up to 9* or so and this is well over that).

It's when you're cruising (in auto) at the right speed at the bottom of a gear and you give it partial throttle. Maybe 1/2 throttle or a bit more or less. Enough to load the engine but not enough to cause it to kick down a gear. Only happens at slower city speeds when you're in a high gear and RPMs are below 2,000. It's that area where you can feather the throttle to get it to kick down 1 gear or if you floored it, it would kick down 2 or 3 gears. If you give it anything more than the slightest gas up to where it would kick down a gear it will ping very audibly.

I haven't paid attention to it for a long time (like exactly what speed and rpm) since I've gotten to just sort of know when I'm in that range and I either bump it down a gear with the autostick or I give it enough gas to kick it down without thinking about it.
