I owned an E55 that put down like 480hp to the wheels with and 530ftlbs......at the wheels!! I ran the dog crap out of that car. I know several E55 MB guys that drag their cars on a regular basis. Those cars run mid 11's all day long and when there done they pack up drive them home and then drive them to work the next day. I have also been a member on the MBWorld forum and have NEVER heard of any transmission failures in these supercharged applications. BTW a "stock" E55 will put down 425hp/475tq at the wheels and are a very underrated vehicle. In my opinion I feel this transmission can handle 600hp with no issues. I have seen GSM put out the supercharged 426 powertrains on these vehicles and have yet to hear of any failures. I know there is alot of "independent" research going on but again this tranny has been around for some time with more power than we are putting to them and I have yet to hear of massive failures.
Excellent news about the tranny. But it is the T-case i question. Oh well, maybe buy a spare and build it too...
The E55 has a different, stronger version of the same transmission. And many of us are already putting much more power to the ground than your E55. My peak torque at the rear wheels is 630 foot pounds. I'm still worried....
ummmm, greek....... i have already offered up my services.....will be in socal for the spring fest to see if they can make the east coast testing begin then!!! hahahahaha
Not sure if anyone has brought this up but what do you do for a cold air intake now, I guess if you have a BWoody you could still use it, what are you guys using Sarge
JMATT, You might try a progressive controller to ease the pain on your trans. Weight and shock is what is going to kill these parts.
Short Rope! For now the stock throttle body works but the cai will need to be routed differently. This is one of those little things that has to be worked out "before" it goes public or we will have 100 disgruntled buyers looking for a short rope and a tall tree. If one uses one of the larger throttle bodies that will soon debut then a larger tube must be used. None the less the CAI will have to change for use on the I-Charger.
Not a fan of progressive controllers, but for those who are, there's some awesome new products available this year. Nitrous Express has some really trick new stuff out. I went the triple staged route in order to minimize (everything's relative, right? ) the strain on my entire driveline. 100HP to start, 175HP in the mid RPM range, then 275HP at the high end. (those are total numbers. It's not 100+175+275. It's 100 total, then 175 total, then 275 total)
Your braver than I am, I've always stuck to the "RULE" of only an extra 20hp per cylinder on stock unless your forged Sorry Sarge started to edit your post instead of mine. Is it true that once FI is introduced a CAI is pretty much there for filtering and has no added power benefits
