I'm going to try the JET for experimental purposes. If that don't cure it, I'm putting in the stock one and taking it in to the dealer.
Im going to get the Jet one for one reason alone, they classify it as HIGH FLOW. Damn, another thermostat change.
I had high temp problems till I switched to the Jet about 6 weeks ago. Wish I could have done it a year ago because for whatever reason my temps are all nice and low now no matter how hard I push.
What are your fans set at? Our cars will run up to 230* pretty easily when pushed which is about where the high speed fans kick on. Think about it this way: If the temp keeps rising (for whatever reason) it's going to boil over (past the pressure release). If the cooling system doesn't have the capacity (for the conditions you're under) the temp will just keep on rising. If the temp levels off then the cooling system has the capacity to handle it. So... the t-stat controls the minimum temp. Once the t-stat opens you have the cooling capacity of the radiator with the amount of ambient temp air passing through it. If that doesn't do it the temp rises until your low speed fans kick on which increases the amount of air through the radiator. If that doesn't do it the temp rises until you high speed fans kick on which increases the amount of air through the radiator. If that doesn't do it it "boils over". Your temp guage looks like your high speed fans are set to come on at the stock setting and they did so. I expect it stayed level (or would have) at 230* if you kept pushing it. Now, what you're thinking is that the motorad doesn't open far enough and restricts the coolant flow through the radiator. Not enough flow and you reduce the amount of heat exchanged to the air. If true, that would shift all those stages down in the temperature range -- except the minimum temp. I guess we'll know when you try the Jet. I really doubt that it's the t-stat unless you got a defective one. The one pictured open in the cherokeesrt8 thread you pointed to looked open plenty enough to me... As long as you're going to swap them, get a pot of water and a meat thermometer. Put both tstats and the thermometer in the pot and light the stove. watch and note the temp each opens at and how far each opens when fully opened. That will be interesting info for everyone.
