While shooting my buddies bow, i had a carbon arrow shatter when I shot and the rear of the arrow tip was projected into my wrist. I was bleeding profusely at first, looked like a O.J Simpson crime scene...I had shards of carbon embedded into my arm (looked like a porcupine) so took some tweezers and plucked, and dug particles out as best I could. The black lines in the wound in the picture is carbon still in my arm. Did a compression on wound to stop bleeding. After about 5 min., i had bleeding to a min and took this picture.

Hey buddy, listen to Ron this one time, at these places they even have some pepole that know a thing or two about caring for wounds...
Maybe schatterd carbon isn´t a great thing to have on the inside.

    Take care!

Hospitals...WOW, that's a great concept, but it will never catch on...;)

Thing is, i have 4 RN's in my family...they have all been in the loop on treatment. Not to mention my wife, who could nurture a rabid hyena to health...I'm in good care.
I cleaned it up more last night with peroxide and tweezered most of the carbon out...at least to the point where I could take the pain. Dressed with Anti Pain Neosporine and gauze wrapped and ace bandage for protection. The rest of the carbon will work itself out on it's own over time. Carbon will not harm me per say, well unless you wield it at yourself at 280 feet per second, then it kinda stings...lol

Thanks for the concern guys, but i'll keep a close eye on it to avoid infection..then i'll just pour beer on it. :)

Every time I have had a cut like that I was always told never to use hydrogen peroxide because it ends up killing tissue and making things worse. Cold water and soap.

That's a nasty looking wound you got there... Good luck with the healing.

The arrow had been shot a lot, i guess it was past it's life. My buddy threw the rest in the trash. Below is what's left of the arrow, and what hit me in the wrist.

I'll bet Chris would know exactly how bad the resin is for you.

good call. when i 3D shoot. i usually bust some arrows and never have any that live long enough. i buy new arrows every year.

i like the shoots here in NM. we have some challenging shots. through trees, around rocks, laying down shoots. sooo much fun.

kyle - depending on what type of resin was used, keep a close eye on your overall health. you start running a fever or feeling tired or nauscious, see a doctor. blood infection comes to mind.... ask me how i know....

as for the carbon, you will never get all the pieces out, simply impossibe because you can't see some of what i am sure is in there.

carbon fiber is a great thing, but when it failes, it does so dramatically and without warning!!!! this is why you rarely will see any kind of shields or protective devices made from pure cf. i can remember many moons ago when i was working with the goalie from the San Jose Sharks about doing a custom mask. i made one from cf and when i hit it with a puck, the damn thing exploded into a million pieces!!!! needless to say we aborted that idea!!! lol cf does not do real well with acute, high impact!!!

    unfortunately i do......

although these days, some of the stuff used in resins when i first started in my field are long gone. i can remember using promoters that could literally kill you if you got too much exposure to them!!! they would attack your liver and shut it down in high doses!!

these days, many of the resins have gone "green" and a much more eco friendly. only thing, they do not work as well imo!! lol

and yeah, i still use the "bad" stuff for my intakes!!! heheheehehe

Yes it is, I shot 3d a few years, a while back. We got pretty creative also in the swamps, toughest shot for me is long distance down hill...I always overcompensated. Fun hobby, but like most fun hobbies, it can be expensive.

My buddy bought a new Mathews Z7
We've been playing with it the last few days, it's a bad ass bow...very quiet, very well built. Arrows age was unknown, but it's been shot over a thousand times...Indoor range practicing.
