Im gonna go out on a limb and say that most of these guys also daily or at least drive them around town and can't do that with open headers plus the fact it would totally freak out the PCM (im sure tuning could address that) and some need the added back pressure from whatever type of exhaust they are running, I think cut-outs are more suitable for those wanting the free flowing effect of open headers..Just my uneducated guess.
Well, I would take the DD out of the equation for myself since I don't drive the car anymore besides the track........ I guess I am curious if there are gains in doing this and could tuning take care of any PCM issues relating to this ?
Just so I understand it more, why does back pressure affect my TQ curve ? Is it strictly due to tuning ? and if so could it be corrected to see gains from running open headers
Not when I dynoed my car. I gained over the catback/hiflows with just 16" header extensions attached. The main reason I run a short exhaust is for weight reduction. Catbacks weigh a ton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O20dsuNXc5g People at the track will hate you though. I had some gal last week tell me she couldn't tell if her car was running when we ran against each other
Did you have an after Market Catback on first ? Curious what the Zoomers weight :stars: So you made gains on the dyno or at the track or both ?
Prolly better to at least run off road mids and maybe even the x-pipe. That will give you the required back pressure for bottom end, free up a few ponies up top, and drop a few pounds.
Well, I was reading more online about running open headers and how it affects where you will come into peak TQ..... It claims its good for cars running 4,000-10,000 RPMS.... I guess at this point open headers just depends on the car and its worth bring it to a dyno to see where the curves fall..... I guess Im just wondering if its worth investigating
prolly not worth more that a 1/10 or so...it's fun for the track though, downside is your entire cabin will see alot of vibration and could promote rattles behind the dash, sunroof, rear deck etc etc...
Yes, both. No loss in low end torque. Zoomers w/ midpipes/cats are 50 lbs plus Realize that you will have to drive with your windows down to avoid CO poisoning. The headaches will give you a hint you are on your way out
He has ALWAYS run very fast. Even before he had any mods. Then he got mods and ran even faster. there's just something strange about that boy...:erm:
HAHAHAH you made me spit on my computer monitor:ronlove: This I know that boy just aint right in the head
As far as dynoing.... did everything stay the same or did you gain anything with open headers ? I hear ya about the CO2..... people on the LX forums told me to keep the windows up til I pass out :drugs: :chair: :ilovesrtc:
I think it pretty much gained everywhere although it was dynoed on a different day and the results could be argued.
Not sure about the LX headers but the Mopar headers on my truck have the O2 sensors in the collector part of the headers....when I first installed them we had to drive the truck about 3 miles to the muffler shop with just the headers...sounded badazz but the engine kept loading up from running rich.. The reason was the sensors were getting fresh air so the PCM thought the truck was running lean so it started adding fuel.....for this reason it would not be any good at the track...
A good reason to run a 15-18" extension off the headers. Plus this is a tuned length per Pipemax software for my car (and probably most 6.1s). Tuning your exhaust length takes into account pressure waves and scientific sounding stuff:whistle:
