Yes,I will be changin my oil too! I need some "bonding" time, with the new girl anyway! haha And besides,i have TRUST issues! haha I dont want anybody else putting their hands on MY GIRL! lol:huglove:
I used to always do my own oil changes but couldnt justify the trouble for what little dealer charges....but if I didnt trust them I wouldnt let them touch the truck even if they paid me....Service mgr is a good friend and he only allows one tech to work on mine....sometimes he does the work himself..
My old Man was a mechanic. And I basically grew up in his shops. I am not a mechanic myself, but short of rebuilding the motor....I can do it myself. As a young man...I hated it! All I wanted to do was DRIVE,not tinker with them! lol...funny how things change, huh? Now,I actually enjoy working on my SRT! Not so much other vehicles, mind you....But My SRT is actually my "DREAM TRUCK" ,And I find myself looking forward to "projects"... Oil is as basic as it gets....haha...but still, can be fun, with the "right" attitude!
Ummm, well... NO. lol, "Aviation Structural Mechanic -- Active Duty"... nice try. Most people first discover helicoils the first time they strip a spark plug or an oil drain plug. If I had to guess I'd say spark plug might be more common. Not sure why. Maybe because you're usually using a short box end wrench under the car or if you're using a long one you don't have much travel with it. Maybe it's just way easier to cross thread a spark plug. Probably 'cause they sell oversize drain plugs at the parts store just for that.
i just recently to my mag to the dealership for the 36k miles service.there are about 6-7 things they(SUPPOSE) check and inspect.dealer charged my $98 bucks. i get my service done every 6k mikles. it mite take me 8 months to get 6k miles between service so i dont mind going to the dealership for service.
On average, my usual oil change at the dealer is about $80-$90. I do however just got my dealer service contract tickets in the mail. Free oil changes or some other kind of maintenance work, free of charge. So that sure does help.
i think we had an entire thread on this.... Dave could answer this better but didnt they find (sending out oil to be analyzed) that the oil does not in fact break down over time, but only through usage. Meaning you could have the same oil for like 5 years and be no worse for the wear so long as you kept it under 3 or 4k miles?
go to walmart people.. 5qts of mobil 1 in the jug are 25 bucks... mopar filter there is 5 bucks... As far as getting the service down by a qualified person, well thats another story. Its not hard to do if you have the essential tools. But very easy to screw up if you dont know what your doing
Wal-Mart does not carry the European formula (0w-40) Which is far superior than their 5w-30 from what I have learned.
Last 2 oil changes at the dealer they used 5w/40. Said that's from Chrysler galactic HQ. Part no. 5127394-AB Desc: Oil 5W40 1081090 Kind of looks like the same formulation as the 0w/40.
Who? me? 3,500 - 'cause mine are covered under my extended maintenance plan. I get an analysis done every oil change and they kept telling me for a while that everything looked great and I should try another 1000 next time... until I told them I wasn't interested in longevity for a couple more years. Blackstone Labs: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ It's like $25 for an analysis. You could get one every time you change oil and keep stretching it out a 1000 miles more each time if you're looking for extended use until you find about how long you can go.
Busted....by my siggy...oops.... I would think spark plugs are common because people love to wrench them in good and tight into an aluminum head (hence the torque wrench you mentioned earlier) Just a random FYI, I went to Autozone and they have Mobil 1 oil and filters on sale. 29.99 for five quarts of ANY blend Mobil 1 and a filter! *edit* ^^ I see that was mentioned earlier...but anyways....yeah....
To the OP... damn sure don't get under the car with only the jack supporting it. Get a jackstand or ramp as others mentioned and set your parking brake. A guy not long ago on LXF (I think) was crushed... and killed... and he seemed pretty experienced mechanically. Changes are much easier with this puppy: And I thought I was a renegade using 6,000 mile intervals...
I think he meant he doesnt it ever 3k miles and is getting ready for his third at 9,000 haha.... and WHY dont cars have a decent drain plug for the oil....or for all fluids for that matter...is it bad or something ? lol
hhahaha I get it now. That Fumoto is the first one I've had... going to install it RIGHT now actually.
