Why do you think this... and I will tell you this. A spring shit the bed on my last mustang. It cost me a rod and piston and a head because the valve completely fell into the cyl embedded into the piston and on an up stroke buried its ass into the head.
Markie, I HOPE it is what we discussed, but after talking it over with Cam, I think it may be a crap spring. You might want to contact Josh and discuss some options.
Time for another pump in the sand box! No more living out fantasies of an over age college student picking up chicks! LOL
The first thing I would do is let Josh at HHP know. The second thing I would do is start pulling parts to verify the damage.......I am 90% sure you dropped a valve......but we don't know yet if you holed the piston....I have seen some strange things happen......then once it's verified you can worry about what you need.
I've seen two motors so far that the guy got off lucky. Both instances the head of the valve got busted off and lodged in the intake port and the piston only had some eyebrow marks and no damage to the cylinder wall. But knowing how weak our pistons are, in both cases I'd suggest a piston replacement. Luckly, there are tons of stock piston/rod assembles laying around various shops and can be had for cheap or free depending on who the vendor is. Like E is telling you, get the valve cover off of it today and take a look first.
Cause we told him so. It's all in the codes.........just the p0301 is a problem....when they go specific on the cylinder misfire it means there is a problem.....the fact that he has the high airflow codes with it means a valve is hung open in that cylinder and the piston is pumping air back into the intake manifold creating a loss of vacuum.
And it's a real common problem with the old manley springs. Every sign he had is typical of a dropped valve.
The only thing that keeps me from saying it's just a bad upstream 03 sensor is the p0301 code.Unless it ran so lean it melted the plugs.
would i be hearing crazy sounds from my engine if this is the case? when i tried to fire it back up, it all sounded fine, just sputtered. i could keep the car running with some throttle modulation.
you would hear something......if the bit's stayed in the cylinder.Have them check for a bad upstream 02 on the drivers side first.......you may get lucky.....now that I am thinking more about it the 0301 may just be fouled plugs from too much fuel when the o2 went bad.
That is why I am still thinking it is not a valve spring. The 138 code is what steers me in another direction. But....
This sucks Mark. I would pull the valve covers to take a look and while there off I would pull the plugs too and see what they look like. Im assuming your not doing this yourself right? Call Josh ASAP too!
cam, i called them a little while ago, they said they wont get to it till later this afternoon. when i dropped my key in the drop box there was 2 other cars in the drop box. looks like last night was a bad night to be heading south through danville va
