I had the opportunity to go to Firebird in Chandler this weekend for NHRA. Didn't feel like going. I live in Chandler. LOL My attention span is way to short for NASCAR
Another lousy race caused by yet another late start! Argh, why do they push back the start times so late, I mean they didn't take the green flag till 3:20 pst, that's insane!! Race was actually ok I guess (5 wide racing is kinda cool) cept for the numerous cautions for, yep, rain. If they'd started earlier, like noon or 1 they wouldn't have had a problem.
i was woundering the samething with the late starts. especially last week at daytona when during pre-race there talking about rain moving later and they don't start the race for another hour and a half. when nascar posts start times they always put subject to change by it. so why don't they do it when rain is coming? at daytona there TV coverage started at 2pm if they would of came on and said rain is coming nascar bumped the start up showed the pre-race ceramonies and droped the green flag at 2:15pm they wound of got the whole thing in not cut it 40 some laps short. come on Nascar bring back the 1:15pm green flag.
Sunday's race was set to start at 3 pm (2 hours later than last year), Autoweek had it set for 6:15 pm eastern time. I think this year they want to " run under the lights " is why the races are later. There were a lot of cautions for weather, but, it was no way as wet as Daytona was, but, it did sprinkle and to most in California it is like the end of the world - I did not see anyone either in the inflied or in the stand wearing (yellow)raincoats or trash bags because of rain. Nobody left thier seats.
Folks, I've been watching NASCAR for years, I've been going Bristol since the early 70's I'm probably going to ass off a few people with this, but here's my .02 about what's wrong with this sport. In no particular order. 1. Loss of product identity... give me back cars that look like what we actually drive. 2. Drivers... Gone are the Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt, David Pearson personalities. Now the drivers have to be paid to show up for an autograph session, and act like they're pissed about having to do it. Drivers, try to act like you actually appreciate the folks who WRITE YOUR FRIKKIN' PAYCHECK! When is the last time a driver came out after a race (or before),sat down on the wall, and signed autographs? 3. Bruton Smith & his engineers... have ruined Bristol, Charlotte etc. By making the tracks "perfect". The drivers no longer have to race the track as well as the other cars... Shit, just have qualifying, pay everybody and go home! That'll cut down on team costs, & give the drivers a little time to maybe go mingle with their fans. Put our good old tracks back the way they were! 4. Bruton Smith... DUDE how damn many 1.5 mile tri ovals do you think we want to see? Give me back Rockingham & North Wilkesboro. Hell, build another track similar to Bristol (THE OLD BRISTOL) on the west coast. 5. NASCAR... See above comment. 6. NASCAR... Has succeded in immasculating the drivers with rule, after rule, after rule... NASCAR was founded by a bunch of rednecks who at times acted like, well, REDNECKS! If millions of Americans wanted to watch a bunch of pansies run around in a circle, ballet would be a multimillion dollar spectator sport. Maybe the teams need to recruit some NHL rejects to put a little testostorone back in the sport.
Well., since Juan Pablo made a fool out of himself on FOX this weekend, I figured I'd dig this thread back up, and point out item #2 on my previous comment! what a JERK!
