No More Hurst Cars See link: http://news.westcoastchallengers.com/archives/hurst-performance-vehicles-calls-it-quits/ Well its something that was expected! They were not sell much cost was just to high! As far as the programming I think it sucks that Dodge would do that as that would also kill the future of its performance line up as it stops the production of aftermarket parts! Why buy the part if you can't change the tuning to work with the part! I do not see a company like Diablo being able to pay someone to be able to crack it as the cost would be so high! And to be honest when it come to CMR tuning Diablo while they have the only product out there for the Hemi it lacks real bad when it comes to CMR tuning. Not there fault but the fault of Dodge. that is why you don;t see any other companies that provide a tuning software or the Hemi! To me its a sad day for dodge! As I sad it kills the after market for Superchargers, turbos, the juice shots, Cams the list goes down all the way to Cold air intakes! Real dumb move for Dodge as they just killed me buying any car from they that I would want to do modifications to!
I bet Hurst's closing is more related to financial than Chrysler's so called "uncrackable" codes. I find it hard to believe that Hurst couldnt survive producing special Ford & GM products....I would say they were on their way out and the "uncrackable" excuse saved face.... I also believe that the "uncrackable" thing is being blown way out......if a high school kid can hack into the pentagon computers for fun I am sure a paid computer engineer will find a way... Of course all the above is JMHO....:smart:
I can agree that Hurst used it as a way to bow out. But if you really think about it I got to the track and to car shows and how many camaro's do you really see? And how many ford's? Not to many! So we can think that dodge was the most product that they selling! But the main point is what dodge is doing to us! I disagree that a kid can crack the code! I would believe that the major tuning company's for Hemi's would get together and pay to crack it if they could! The point I feel is that this has killed the aftermarket for Dodge! They might come out stronger with "mopar" parts! But now they guys that would normally want a Hemi will now turn to ford and Chevy and will now be able to make there car's faster then ours! Its just really a sad time for Dodge real stupid move as I know of alot of guys that wanted to do a 426 etc that were looking to trade into the 392 but now will not as there is nothing they can do with the car!
Maybe there have been few hurst Ford & GM products because Hurst focused on Chrysler?....Mustangs out sale Challengers probably 10 to 1 or more.....Camaro sells better too.... And I didnt say a high school kid could break the code....a paid computer tech yes....
Breaking into a secured device or reverse engineering machine code are very different from decrypting strongly encrypted data. If they've encrypted the image or data in the image it's very very likely not "crackable". Getting the key pairs from Chrysler is a possibility. Decrypting an image or re-encrypting a modified image is just not possible without the keys. Not by Joe tuner, not by the CIA, not by NASA, not by the Russian hackers or those guys in Beijing. A 128-bit key (the smallest they would possibly use) has 340282366920938463463374607431768211455 combinations. Not statistically guessable and given the time to try each one you wouldn't brute force it while we're still using gas engines.
My son is working on getting a masters in computer science...his intention is to get into computer security referred to as an ethical hacker...he just laughed when he read the "uncrackable" part........I will make a bet that someone will have a tune within 3 years or I buy you a 6 pak....if a tune is developed you buy me a tuner...:flowers:
In three years the new 5.0 GTs will be running 9s and making streetable 700+rwhp. Oh wait...they already do. Good job Dodge:getlost:
Dumb move Dodge. It does not compute.... Do people buy cars specifically because they have an "un-crackable" PCM?????.......NO BUT.... they will buy if they know the potential of their car by what can be added with additional programming. Look at the aftermarket industry now for the LX platform and where was it before the PCM was cracked. I have seen all this growth since I had my car in 2006 and the PCM was finally "cracked" in 2008. Really... What kind of problems is DiabloSport (and others) actually causing Dodge, because they can reprogram the PCM? ..
