They actually do better in the rain than you would think. I had just put them on my car before SpringFest 09, and only the 275's. Amazing traction with approx 500 HP. I would imagine the 315's would do even better. Your not going to get full contact on a 9" rims, unless you run lower than recommended tire pressure. I put the 295 RSA's before Springfest II, they had a pretty good contact patch at recommended tire pressure. Nitto recommends a 10.5 to 12.5 rim width with 11.00 being optimum. I don't think anyone has ran an 11.00 on an LX yet, let alone at 12.5.
I haven't driven in the rain with them yet, can't say how they handle yet. I drove about 50 miles Saturday, and where my old 555R's would break loose, these stuck. I'm going to try and get to the track this week...should be Wed., i'll report.
Are you lowered at all? I just put some 305 Nitto 555Rs on my stock wheels and it's a small gap to the inner fender. And I'm running 3mm spacers. Hoping they will still fit when I put my new springs in soon. Strange thing is the passenger side has a bigger gap than the driver side b/t the tire and inner fender...???
Are you running the 555r's on all the tires I just bought a set because I could not find nt05r's anywhere. And now I am looking for the 555's for the front?
Where to get them. I am having my factory MSRT wheels widened in a few weeks. Where can I get those tires? Anyone online sell them? Thanks, Bill
Haha Hal...touche' Still haven't driven in the rain with them yet. On dry street, they hook WELL. I'm realllllly liking these tires. I am lowered with KW V2's, no spacers either....No rubbing at all at any time. Still haven't been able to hit the track, either weather or my life permitting. Will report when I do. Discount tire does carry them and has been on national b/o for a while. I am a wholesale dealer for a wholesaler in New Orleans...that's where I bought them.
I'm giving these a try this year 275 all the way around. I bought 315 verstiens a couple of years ago and all looked okay until I made some sharp tuns and went up the driveway, they rubbed the in wheel well, needless to say I have a set of tires with about 20 miles on them with a grove gouged in the outer corners. I do have a Pedders track II suspension and my car sits pretty low. Cant wait to hear how they do at the track.
I have been running 275 in different tires company's for 3 years no problems at all on stock suspension. I coudl not find the nt05r's anywhere so I just ordered 275 Nitto 555r's for the rear do to the stage 2 hoping I can hook up now and Nitto Nt05's for the front all 275's. Let you know if I end up with any problems.
As soon as I can, I will. Can't wait myself. For street use I've been running them at 35 PSI. At the track i will begin at 18 and work my way down. Hopefully soon. Will report.
That may be kind of high for the street... These run lower than most. Try it for a while and keep an eye on the wear. I doubt you're even getting to the apex on the tire shoulder. I don't have the "r"s but I imagine they differ mostly in the compound?
So what would do you have your pressure set at? I will be putting NTo5's in the front and because I could not find NT05r anywhere I will be using 555r's on the back.
I'm running mine around 29. They heat up to 32 - 33. On the street they will wear evenly across. Scrub marks do not quite get to the diamonds. I have 255s. There could also be a difference in sidewall stiffness between these and the 275s.
Good call Dave, thanks...Your post made me look at the patch and wear pattern...35 is to high...Will drop to 28 and see how that feels.
This is exactly how i run the Invo's and they wear very unevenly. When i have my car at the tire shop in a couple of weeks I am going to have them check the alignment but i do not believe that to be an issue.
well, you can't compare across models. Often you can't even compare across sizes. For example, keeping roughly the same profile/diameter, going from a 255 to 275 pushes them over some threshold and they stiffen up the sidewalls... that sort of thing. You should be able to tell exactly what's going on from the wear pattern. What do yours look like? Evenly worn more on the outside than the inside or visa versa. Evenly worn more in the middle than the edges or visa versa Scrubbed more on the outside than the inside. Cupping/scalloped on the shoulders. Uneven wear around the tire but evenly across it. combinations of the above.
