Welcome to the fold. From the 305/786  Have always wanted to get more into road course driving, I mean it's easy to go in a straight line.
Thanks for the welcome..... A bunch of us will be out at Moroso in West Palm Beach on March 1 and 2 running the road coarse with PCA/PBOC/PBMC (Porsche club of America/Porsche BMW Owners Club/Palm Beach Mustang Club). You are welcome to join us out there. It is free to watch and if you are interested in participating, let me know and I'll tell you what you need to do.
if you have time to turn , your going to farkin slow!!!!!!!!!!!! easy....lol.... it takes talent ... ask any sucessful drag racer if its easy...the good ones make it make it look easy
Excellent. Let me know if you do and I'll send an email to the registrar so I can be your instructor. You and Lisa going to run the same car or is she bringing the stang?
I might have some R compounds in the garage. Let me know what size wheels you are running (17's or 18's) and I'll see what I have.
I'm running 17s ... 315 in the rear. My fronts are still good (Nitto 555 Extreme) with the Extreme DR in the rear that are bald, lol. What would be the ideal tire? It's stock (except CAI, O/R mid-pipe, catback) so 325+ is all the hp it has.
Power is not going to be the issue here. 325 is plenty for you right now. Handling, braking and the driver mod will be paramount for your first few events. Speed will come with seat time. What size tire do you have on the fronts on the 555 extremes? A 315 in the rear is excellent for straight line traction but the car may push in the corners that much tire in the rear. Do you have another set of throw down wheels for the event that we can mount up some matching tires? I only have two sets of S197 wheels but they are the incorrect offset for your car. If you don't, I'll talk to Frank (PBMC) and see if he has any wheels we can borrow. We also need to do some suspension tweeking. Brake fluid flush (ATE600 or Motul) and some new pads before you go.
I have some new pads (just need to get my 01 off the lift here to get them put on) and I can flush the brake fluid. I can buy some track tires for these wheels - or I can get some take-off wheels too. If you can let me know the optimum size for 17's that would be great and if you suggest a particular tire, I am open to all suggestions. Thanks so much!!
Well the most common size is the 275-40-17 on 9" wheels. I only have two Kumho Victoracers in that size. All the others I have are Hoosier 275-35-18's. For your first few events, you really don't need R compound tires, a good High Performance Street tire may actually be better for you. They are more forgiving-in your learning stage, that is important too. What size are the 555's you have on the front? I would suggest flushing your complete braking system with high temp brake fluid like Motul 600 or ATE Super blue. Also, get a high performance brake pad such as a Hawk HP+ or similar. The high performance brake fluid and pads will lessen the probability of brake fade.
