    basically, its one of the fastest stock bikes on the market. the buddy of mine who races triumphs in the salt flats owns one of these for a DD.

    get this bike outta your head quick right and in a hurry....waaaaaay too much power.

    Stevo....I was completely kidding about getting an R1. Don't get yourself killed riding a bike....don't get a bike!

    I'd say get an old, beat up, large size dirt bike like a 250. Learn to ride on that for a month or two. You can dump them, stand em up and keep on going. They're heavy enough that you can't just toss them around but light enough that you can compensate with "body language". Then sell that and get a starter road bike. Get a cruiser. On a cruiser your helmet and leathers don't have to match your bike.

    Squid == Ricer.

    I think everything has been covered, but I will suggest taking the course, as it just helps people realize if whether or not they truly want a bike. Granted the bikes are shit, but you get the general idea. I have been riding 2 wheels since I was 4 years old, so to me it seems really easy. On the other hand a few years back my buddy decided to buy a used Honda F3, which is an older 600. Well he had never been on a bike and needless to say he crashed it a good 6 times before he learned what he was doing. A few of the crashes were not very pretty either. I have ridden every possible bike made, and will say sport bikes rank right up there with raked out choppers on the hard to drive scale. Bikes are awesome I love them, but a lot of people just dont understand that one simple mistake can really fuck you up.

    I had a Honda 600rr a few years back, great bike but I wouldnt suggest it for a beginner.

    I currently roll with an 03 HD V-ROD. Let me know if still hate the cruisers

    Thats actually a pretty old pic. I have done quite a bit to it since.

    What kind of power are you used to? Is your car stock? By the way, picking up chicks isnt to hard on a badass HD! :bigwink:

    wrong answer :getlost:......... kid in my office, never riden a bike mind you, goes out and buys an r1 to be like the other morons in my office that think they are nicky hayden wannabe's........three days and the bike is wrecked and him in the hospital with collapsed lungs, ruptured spleen, and several broken bones...... two wheels and fast is a very dangerous combo for someone who has no idea about the concept of counter steering or panic stops!!!!

    Scott and Chris! Sweet bikes guys! Oh, and no, do like Jason said and get a Vespa. Better yet, for arounf 200 dollars you can buy one of those mopeds that made Honda famous. I was watching a show on TLC that was for the top 10 bikes ever and this moped one for being the most reliable, most popular, and most durable (they dropped it off a building).....I mean, sure you'll look like a dufus riding it with your huge fishbowl helmet, but nothing you're not used too hahaha..jk buddy.

    I agree with taking a course though if you are going with the bike, because we DO want you around regardless of what others say lol....I was scared off bikes when I was in my 20's. First bike I ever got on by myself was an FZR600 and found it fun as hell. Then, minutes later I rode my other friend's brand new CBR600 F2 and found it a totally different bike with awesome turning capability. I stopped at a stop sign to turn right (late late in the evening) with no traffic, and I gave it too much throttle around the turn. I went up the curb on the other sider of the intersection, just missed a tree, came back down the same curb and into the oncoming lane (side street) and back to normal. Haven't been on a bike since hahaha.

    Look for a Used Ninja 500 as the little twin won't likely overwhelm you. It's also a pretty light bike without looking too wimpy

    OR a used Suzuki Katana 600 if you're a bit bigger rider - it' will allow you to eventually ring-it-out if you want (once for you've taken the riding courses) but shouldn't bite you in the ass in process - both have lower fairings which will probably get scratched up in your learning experience.

    Both have the dreaded "Ninja" and "Katana" monikers which can red flag them at insurance companies but here in Canada, anything under 599 cc is usually cheap to insure. Fairing-less bikes (like the Yamaha MT-01 I'm looking at getting) are generally less costly to insure as well.
