To conserve on bandwidth and to ensure a fast running forum for ALL, the SRT Connection has put a limit to the size of signature pictures. The maximum size is NOT to exceed 200KB. The pixel size has remained the same throughout our different supporting membership packages, but the 200KB maximum will be in effect. Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation.
for those of us who are computer challanged, how do we check to see if our current sig pic is 200KB or smaller?
I've been thinking about a sig pic since I joined... but then I figure maybe I should think about an avatar pic first.
right click on the picture, select properties, look at file size. Jason, your pic is 34KB's, so no worries. lol
I didn't think I was over the limit. I figured it was more along the lines of the sigs that move, and change pics and stuff like that. I was thinking more along the lines of those people who get their sigs from others, and might not know how big they are.
I don't think this really applies to stationary (non-animated) sig pics. I think this is more about the ANIMATED sigs which have eaten bandwith in the past and as of late I've seen more of them pop up around here. They are okay if they are less then 200kb, there are a few that aren't. When I right click and click Properties... I only see Size: "numbers" bytes I don't see KB... How can I without calculating some sort of forumla? Because this is what I end up having to use... http://www.matisse.net/bitcalc/?input_amount=35695&input_units=bytes¬ation=legacy So much easier to just right click and see it...
If it says "bytes" after the number then just look at the thousands. That's roughly the number of Kb's. If it says "Kb or kilobytes" after the number then just look at the thousands. That's roughly the number of Mbs. So Jason's sig is 35695 bytes --> 35,695 --> 35,xxx --> a bit over 35 Kb.
Ummm, maybe not... used to be that way but then too many non-geeks got computers, didn't know what binary was, and insisted on using K = one thousand, M = one million. Then the gui people caved in (they're generally not too bright anyway) and started using either one. Now you can never really tell. So /1000 is close enough for gov'mt work. So Ron's an ex-gov'mt employee AND he's... Ron. When he said "200Kb" what do you think he meant??? (you can't win this one).
Since some of you can not see the property values in KB from Jason's sig pic, and Dave decided "Close enough" for gov't work after Mains posted proper math equation, here is the KB from Jason's sig properties. Size of File = 34.86 KB (35695 bytes) Looks like Mains' math wins. lol
