Modified my stock antenna yesterday. Here is how to do it. 1. Cut the stock antenna mast to desired length. I decided on 7 1/2" 2. Remove stock ball from the mast. Wrap the ball in a rag and secure it in a vise. Use pliers to pull the mast out of the ball. This does take a bit of hard pulling, don't expect it to pull right off 3. Taper Grind your shortened mast so the hole in the ball will fit 4. Pound the ball on with a hammer or whack it on the bench a few times for a nice snug fit. 5. If you so choose, paint with color of choice. I used rattle can semi-gloss black. 6. Re-install and enjoy. The pictures don't do the antenna justice, looks much better in person
i cut and painted my antenna as well...but instead of using the ball i got something else....ill take a pic of it soon!
LOL so do I now, my silly little ball fell off so I had to resort to putting a vaccum cap on the end. Turned out pretty good, but I'd like to see your solution!
Is that something you can find available off the shelf or do you need to find some broke down RC car at a garage sale or such?
good write up. shorty antennas def. look a lot better on the car. i got mine a long time ago on ebay but this wouldn't be a bad idea . thanks
not a bad idea but i just go to autozone and grab there 13in flex antena only $6 and when driving it bends back
who knows. but surprisingly i've not seen a thread about doing this till now. Might have to try it next time im bored tinkering in the garage.
