Well...New tire time is fast approaching, coinciding with tax return time...weird. Anyways, I wold like to hear everybody's real-world opinion on different tires. I'm not looking entirely into performance....I also need longevity. Any and all opinions will be appreciated. Currently, I'm thinking Vreds, but if they don't last long, I'd like to know......
I think the Vreds will last longer than the Nitto NT05's but maybe not a lot longer. I haven't heard anything on longevity of the Nitto Invo's. I'm guessing that's what you'd want. Should give you better performance than the Toyos and might last almost as long??
Nitto Invos are pretty soft, the Toyo Proxes 4's will last significantly longer. Sdcarguy had invos on his old wheels and they only lasted around 14k miles. I usually get 20-25k miles out of my Toyos (if I treat them nicely.)
I to am in need of some rubber soon, and looking at the PARADA Spec-X by Yokohama and doing a 255/40/20 - 275/40/20 combo for front and rear. Or the Nitto NT555 with NT555R DR's in the rear with 245/45/20 - 275/40/20. I think the Nitto combo will outperform the Yoko's, but the Yoko's will likely last longer. Good luck with your decision, and post up a review when you can.

Jeff - I am in the same situation as you. I can't afford getting new tires every year...or at least don't want to. I purchased four Toyo Proxes 4 275/40-20's last night for a really good price ($645). I got about 15k out of both the V's and Invo's. Unless you are driving like I do/did you will be fine with The Proxes 4. And like Adam and many others have said you will get a great performing tire at a good price. The V's were going to cost me about $750 and NT05's would have cost me over $900.
Doh! say it ain't so... I was waiting for you to evaluate the NTO5's. I think maybe with those Toyos you'll be able to practice your drifting without spraying down the skid pad.
Thanks for the input. I don't drive like you do/did.....cause I don't want to replace tires two or three times a year!!
What brand would be best in a 295? I'd like to put as large a tire on the back as will fit without modifications.
I've just done something I haven't done in about 4 years: Stick to the same tire after wearing them out. I'm sticking to the NT05's. They provide good stickiness, decent wet weather performance and I've even taken them onto the track a couple times, although thats probably the reason I am replacing them after about 13 months. Probably lost 3 months per track day doing that. If I were going to put on a performance tire and money was no object: Pirelli PZero in 255/40/20. I've seen them take a beating on an MSRT at the race track (Infineon and laguna) and come out of it just fine. But they are $400 a pop. If I were willing to completely redo my tires I could go cheap and use General UHP's in 255/35/20 ($115 each). Great tread on that tire. Probably the smartest street tire that I'll never buy is the Kumho Ecsta ASX in 255/45/20. 420 treadwear and AA traction for $140 each. Tough to beat those specs. What I'm doing with the Nitto's is something you guys might want to think about. I rotate my race tires in pairs to keep the blood loss from being fatal. I am starting this up on my street tires too. So ... my NT05's aren't done yet. They are well worn but not worn out. I am putting two new NT05's on tomorrow and garaging the two worn ones I am pulling off. In a couple-three months, I will pull the then-worn-out pair and put the worn ones on in their place. It will be 6 months plus until I have to buy the next new pair. The only fly in that ointment is you have to be happy with the tires you are rotating in unless you don't mind mismatched tires for a few months.
I'm hugely impressed with the Toyo P4's... nice grip, nice ride, and long lasting. Believe it or not I have about 40,000 miles on a set. Most people say wet weather performance is fine but these tires never inspired my confidence in the rain. As much as I like them, I like to try new things and heard great things about the Yoko Parada Spec-X... but not quite as many good things as I've heard about the Vreds. People who get Vreds seem to join some kind of cult
Just mounted Vreds on my 05 300 srt8. Just my luck get them on and 6" of snow. Hope I have no rubbing. I had michelin pilots 235-40-20's and these seem taller (275-40-20). But they do look sweet.
Very nice. If I can find a set at a reasonable price I wouldn't mind trying them too... otherwise the Yoko's. What'd you pay? And I should hope they seem taller than your old pip-squeak 235/40's
Well...after the input I received from the people that did post in here (thanks, BTW) and after talking to Rick for a couple minutes, I think I will probably go ahead and get the Toyo's. Thanks for everyone's input!
Good deal here: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=203841&highlight=Parada+Spec-X I'de buy em myself, but i'll be going with DR's in the rear next.
Hey thanks Dook. That wouldn't be bad if they were brand new, but I'd want more of a discount for a used set. You can get them in those sizes for $560... only $160 more than he's asking.
