Just trying to learn a little something about cams in the 426...

My sitiuation may be slightly different than some so thought I would throw it out there.

The Jeep is my DD and I drive my 2 young boys (3 and 1 years old) everyday and the wife drives the Jeep sometimes as well. I can not have the Jeep to "lopey" or idleing rough/stalling at times or acting like it might die. Not to big of a deal for me but for the wife BIG deal and having the kiddos in the car would not want it to die or stall at a stoplight/intersection. Still looking for the most performance possible yet something that is very "streetable" at light to part throttle (less than 50% throttle). Anything over 50% is just me driving without the kiddos so just about anything is fair game there.

With that being said let's see what kind of ideas on a cam would best suit something like this in a 426 Jeep.

    Just thinking aloud...

Reason why I would opt for the blower and not go the 426 route your wife can drive it like she does and keep it under boost plus with the head and cam work Stu did the blower could work more efficient JMO.

FYI I would never left any one that didnt understand that we dont have part throttle tuning for F/I drive my car. thse cars are still nto that tunable for F/I at part throttle.

Go with a good head and cam package or a 426. hell if your not in CA just get a nitrous kit and keep the bottle out when its not fun time, maybe a forged rotating assblem and run a big shot of juice?

I have decided to stay NA, then again you know how I change my mind Wade.

This was 1 reason I decided not to: tuning part throttle is a b*tch and the guy tuning for me is not local therefore making it more difficult.

No n2o for me...to many issues with past Vette and the juice. Good head/cam and a 426 would be pretty sweet though huh? Just need to find the right cam

    The stage 1 or 2 426 cam for a daily driver. I have a 300c SRT8 that ran an 11.62 with the stage 1 cam and a 426.

How are you guys dealing with no additional fuel at pt? I would assume since you have a centri blower you have more throttle to play with before wot. True or false? I have a roots blower and staying out of boost can be difficult at times. My boost curve is literally a vertical line straight up on the chart as it's max boost or no boost all in a tenth of a second. Has anyone tried the iEMS3 piggy back setup for part throttle fueling? http://www.iems3.com/funkarPB_eng.html I'm looking for something and this looks to be a nice piece but not sure. Thoughts please

This post is a little dated, but I thought I would update it a bit. This past weekend I was in Minnesota tweaking an iEMS3 installation on a 392 SC Ram truck running a pro charger centri (2.something inch pulley, really small), a really aggressive cam, and about 16 psi when all done. It is primarily a race truck, and the worlds fastest Gen 3 Hemi pick up.

The issues with the lack of vacuum was playing havoc with the idle which is typical for an aggressive cam and the factory ECU. We got it tamed down as to the transition into boost where it is manageable, but if he was not running such a small pulley on the street it would be very docile. I have a pretty good idea of how I can tame it down for a street tune even more with the iEMS3.

I made a few tweaks to the tune tonight, and they loaded it, and it looks like we are on the right track to tame the vacuum idle issue as well. right now it is purring at a little over 600 rpms and stable. We will know once he runs it on the street a bit tomorrow.

I ran my turbo Jeep up there, 1500 mile in 2 1/2 days, and zero issues. The shop was in shock as to how docile the turbo jeep was on the street, they had never seen an FI Hemi behave that way.

They were in awe when I showed them how I could break torque it as if at the track, and it would hold right at 5 psi boost for a launch without any ecu issues and AFR's in the low 11's, zero spark knock, and no codes whatsoever.

When I get some more feedback, I will update the results.

Can you start a new thread when you get the updated results? I dont think anyone will see it since this thread is about a camshaft and not tuning/etc.

    Thanks,

Sure, was just responding to the question in the post as the vehicle I was working on is related due to the cam install.
