I've decided to pause my quest for what I thought was an extremely normal type of switch and just use the huge RV-sized wall plate switch that came with the power inverter.

I figured out a decent stealthy location for it: Inside the storage compartment of the armrest or bottom of the center seat.
There are several possible mounting locations, but.......I want to let the members of the SRTconnection pick the location!
I've chopped up my first switch pretty good, so a brand new one is on order. While it's shipping, this is a perfect time to throw up a poll!

I used a foam insulator for a regular light switch to mark the possible locations. The inverter switch is push on/push off and black in color, but the same basic shape and size as the foam in the pictures.

    Here we go.....

The switch should be here before the weekend, so get those votes in!

    Thanks everyone!

Naturally I voted B ... again. I'm not an RV'r or use a monster shaver on the way to work. Please give us an idea of typical switch usage. Like are you going to be going down the road and need to turn it on and off while driving? Or only when parked? Maybe every 15 minutes? or is it like, ON - watch 2 hour movie, Off.

First off, you shouldn't use an electric shaver with a power inverter. That's a big no-no.

It gets used during a variety of times:
    - long road trips (power on before leaving; power off after arrival).
    - power outages (be a neighborhood hero by being the one guy with an inverter during a 3-day ice storm).
    - phone charging (the cell charges quicker with AC vs. DC. This would be one of those "on for 20 minutes; charge phone; turn it off" times).

Hopefully that provides a little insight as to it's usage.

Quick: it's not going in an RV it is an RV style switch. Kevan is putting it in his SRT-10:bigwink:

Sure. It's just that RVs use major inverters... but wait a minute, after Kevan installs his microwave and mini-fridge is it a RV or a truck? Or does it have to have running water and a head to qualify

I was just trying to get a line on usage. I'll stay with location B. Sounds like it's going to be premeditated, infrequent usage. Save those prime spots up front for future additions. Like the remote control for the next radar detector, or the air bag suspension.

    Oh, it's a RECREATIONAL VEHICLE alright....heh heh.
I don't need a nuker and a mini-fridge to get that classification. LOL

The kill switch for the RD is already in place (on the dash), and it's very doubtful that I'll install bags in this truck.

    Wow. Only 7 votes.

I removed the center seat today and disassembled it.
I pulled the plastic insert out for the seat bottom and did some visual and access testing with it just resting in place over the transmission hump (you thought I was gonna say "tranny hump", didn't you? Pervs....LOL).

Since the switch has LED indicators for both POWER and FAULT, it'd be nice to see those while in a driving position.
Location A is a good viewing angle.
Location B has me looking behind to see the LEDs.
Location C has me looking kind of under my right thigh to see the LEDs.
Locations D, E, and F allow me to see the LEDs while in the drivers seat.

I tried to get a "perspective shot" tonight of what I'm seeing while in the drivers seat:

Location E is shown, and the switch is easily within quick reach (about arms length, without bending down).
I'm liking D or E more and more.

    Opinions welcome.
    Switch arrives tomorrow PM.

    Switch came today.
    Install happened tonight.

Cut and shaped an access hole in the seat bottom tray:

The switch plate had to be trimmed and re-shaped in order to mount flat along that wall. Two new screw holes were drilled and countersunk as well.
The plate turned out to be aluminum (not plastic), so I had to re-paint the edge that I'd worked on. I tried out this "spray-in bed liner paint" from DupliColor. Not exactly what I was looking for, but I think it can be cleaned up nicely when completely dry.

    Switch plate installed:

The angle may look a little off, but that's because I went with the final angle on the wall; not the angle of the embossed section (the part that sticks out). Why it doesn't just go straight down I haven't a clue.
The screws are simple brass hinge screws that got a quick shot of the bed liner paint. I'll search out some nice black-coated allen head screws next week.

    Full installation tutorial coming soon!

    I know.
It's too bad that no one makes the kind of switch that I was looking for so I could mount it on the dash.

I just finished putting everything back together, and it works like a champ.
Fishing the line from the top of the trans. tunnel to the carpet notch under the seat was unfun.
