    The foundation's website: http://www.lupus.org/newsite/index.html

Information about lupus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Systemic_lupus_erythematosus, http://www.medicinenet.com/systemic_lupus/article.htm, http://cerebel.com/lupus/overview.htm among many others.

As some of you know, my wife was diagnosed with Lupus (SLE) last October. I have posted some info about her and my experiences since we learned that her discomfort and pain were caused by this auto-immune disease. Stu has also had this disease up close in his immediate family so we wanted to do whatever little we can to maybe raise a few dollars and make people more aware of this disease and the impact it has on many families. It's a disease that is becoming more common and often mis-diagnosed as the symptoms are mistaken for other ailments.

I've tried to come up with a good way to do this without asking for donations directly. Times are tough and for many, there are other priorities than sending money for charity and we all have felt the effects of the poor economy. So this is what we will do: For the rest of this month and all of August, all cams and adjustable timing sets will be discounted by $10 and at the same time, Inertia Motorsports will make a $10 donation to the Lupus Foundation of America. You save a couple of bucks and at the same time, you help a good cause.

This is how it will work:

When you contact Stu or me to order the cam or timing set (PM, email, phone), please mention this thread and you'll get the $10 discount on the part. Once you've completed the purchase, please post in this thread so we can keep track of who and how many ordered so we can make the appropriate total donation to the Foundation at the end of August.

Even if you do not order anything, I want to thank you for reading this thread. Information and knowledge is power, especially in this Internet Age. Without the internet we wouldn't know half of what we do about this disease and without forums as these, we would have less of a voice to express our concerns about issues and problems caused by it. Research for a cure continues and there is currently a new drug showed great promise in lab tests so there is hope of more effective treatment in the future, but even today, the drugs are for the most part able to manage the symptoms for the milder versions of lupus. In the 1950's, Lupus was an automatic death sentence. Luckily, treatment has improved a lot, but there is a long road still ahead.

Hopefully one day there will be an actual cure.

    Thank you.

    Jacob
