Pardon me while I wax nostalgic or something... So as you may or may not know, my dad passed away when I was little, in fact it was 30 years ago this summer. I was just a little older than Madeline is now, so I have very few, very vague memories of him. All I have beyond that are what my grandmother told me when she was still alive, and what my mom and uncles remember. Now, as it so happens, Marc's father dropped out of his life for whatever reason (divorce?) back in 1980 as well (30 years). Difference is, Marc's dad has decided to reconnect with Marc, initially because of Marc's dying grandmother but now because of Madeline (first grandchild!). So I'm kind of blue watching Marc and Madeline's father-daughter bond and seeing how Marc actually has a chance to talk to and get to know his dad as an adult, something I'll never have. So there's the background... Mom used to tell me about how my dad drove a "big old car", at least, that's how I remembered it as a kid. So I was talking to her the other night about how I love my car and miss it and its awesome and all that and we got to talking about the car Dad drove us home from the hospital in. Well, lo and behold, not only was it a Mopar which I knew, it was a light (Mom says "sky") blue 1952 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe 4dr with the flathead six cylinder engine and the special optional oil pan??(her words). So I googled for a picture...couldn't find one the same color, but I did find enough to get an idea. Now yeah, its not a sports car, or even a hot rod, but its got a six cylinder with piles of torque and its a looker and it was the last car Dad had. So one of these years, I want my very own. To get her fixed up like new and drive around on Sundays and on special occasions.
That's a very cool story...and not a bad looking car to boot. Good luck tracking one down, and I hope one day you can get one.
I agree, very cool story indeed! So sorry about YOUR dad! My father died @ 53, just before I got drafted! So I didn't really know him as a adult. My favorite story about my DAD was after he got out of the Army he joined the CCC and worked on road construction. The was a government plan to help Americans teaching them a trade... well work was still very hard to find after, so I found out years after my Dad had passed that he lied and rejoined the CCC under his cousins' name and worked for another couple of years until he got caught and they booted him out! ~ LOL ~ Another rememberance of him is when I came home from Calif, before shipping out to Viet Nam. I had drove my new 1968 Camaro Z/28 from Calif to New York where I was from! My Dad wanted to drive me Z, so he took me for a ride. In a 30 MPH zone..... he was slamming the car thru the gears and SPEEDING! I said.... "What are you doing Dad"...... And wishing you the best on finding a car like that ~ That would be WAY COOL!!! His answer: "This SOB is made to run boy"!!! I'll never forget that... I had NEVER seen my Dad speed before.... quite a shocker! Made me Laugh!!! (Couldn't even imagine him as a "Hot Rodder"!!!) Fond Memories!!! Wishing you the best on finding a car like that ~ That would be WAY COOL!
