Great Write up Erik!!! Coming to visit Hemiwagn any time soon? LOL!!! If not, I'm sure Token and I will jump in hands first and take care of this on mine. Thanks for the help, no one beats BFNY Performance.... Oh, one more thing.... Someone sticky this!
FWIW - I followed Erik's directions and was able to do the halfshafts myself at home. It was a pain in the hind end, but it was doable. Erik even put up with some phone calls from me during the install.
I STILL haven't taken them out of the box hahahaha. Know anyone who wants to buy em? lol...need to fund Erik's trip and install lol..:dumb:
I would consider myself at the higher end of home mechanics, and it was a pain without a lift. Certainly Erik is several notches above me, but he's practically (technically?) a professional wrench. Unless you're comfortable tackling virtually anything, I'd avoid this particular project. No single step is rocket science. There's just a lot to do.
Great write up, Just was shafted this pass week. all went well except for the tabs under the car that left a hole in my head which has 2 staples now. Them buggers are sharp. All in all not that bad of a job to do, but I have a lift.
Tackling this next week...Erik, have your phone on bro. I will probably do it in a few days rather than all at once, job begins on Monday. Oh, and thanks for the write up...easy to follow, good job!
Done...Erik, thanks again for the write up and advice, much appreciated. Did it by myself in three 1 to 1-1/2 hour increments, not exactly a fun job. You have to be somewhat creative for the shade tree mechanic with no air, no lift, and basic tools, but doable.
Yes sir you do...if you have access, use a tranny jack...I Cajun engineered my floor jack to work, but it would have been so much nicer with a tranny jack. if you have any questions, feel free to PM or call me. Also, add a E12 Torx socket, and rubber mallet to the tools list, and when he says a short 21mm socket, he really means SHORT.
I guess the pic got lost on the OC (and it wasn't pretty) but there was Erik, sitting on the ground in the pit area, swaping out someone's busted half shaft. :worthy:
Sooooo. Have you gone and burned the heck out of your drag radials, over bumpy terrain yet? Nothing like hopping over a curb on WOT to test out the shock load factor
