If a part is listed at say $2000, and right below that it says core deposit of $500... what does it all mean? Will I have to fork over $2000 or $2500? I'm guessing $2000, then once I send my old part in, they'll look it over and send $500 back... right??
No. Generally the Core Deposit is in addition to. So, in your example, you will need to fork over $2500. Once the vendor receives your core, then inspect it and determine it is good, they will then refund you the core deposit amount.
Thanks man, not what I was hoping to hear. Will they generally refund the money on a transmission core exchange?
If you deal with a reputable vendor and your "core" is in the shape expected then you can expect to get the refund.....dealing with supporting vendors of this forum helps assure you are treated fairly....a vendor wouldnt last long here if they shafted members...
I am assuming you are getting one from either Eddie or Bill? Either way, the two are not known for screwing anyone over, so you should be in great hands. Provided your Tranny core is on good shape. Example: Not grenaded and can be rebuilt?
It's not for the SRT... but if I did need a high dollar purchase that involved a level of trust, I do feel that the associations here can be trusted. I don't know what planet I've been on... batteries have a core charge? I need to pay more attention. I'm poking around for tranny replacement options for the one that went out in my gf's Saturn ION... so unless Eddie or Bill can do something for me there... . Idk what the hell to tell her. New trannies are $3000. The car is paid off with 138k miles... should she get a new tranny or a whole new car??
if the tranny went first, then I can only imagine that the motor is not far behind? Only speculation though as I obviously have no idea how well maintained the Saturn is? Furthermore, since Saturn is no longer a production car, I can only imagine that replacement part costs will only rise as the availability becomes scarce? I vote for a new car.
Yes... I don't have much faith in a Saturn going much farther than that. The tranny was a VT25E... a CVT automatic used in the Quad Coupe and a couple other unfortunate, unsuspecting models. Its been recalled. Its had lawsuits filed over it. And it probably helped them go belly up. And you're right, I think I could get a rock solid NAG1 for the price of this POS. Well... the bright side of getting a new car is you get to go car shopping! but what do I do with a gimp ION at 138k miles??
Sell it for parts. You can probably get around 1K to 1500 for it with a bad tranny? Or, see what a dealership will give as a trade in. lol
hahaha Its actually sad that thats funny... I'll be happy with a $1000 tradein offer from a dealer... would hate to have this thing sit around for a year being sold piecemeal. Appreciate the sanity check on all of this.
