That's more of what I was asking about. Do you make radical suspension changes for the track? or even (shudder) add weight in the rear?
There is no traction in the trucks. Dry, wet, snow, ice....it's all the same. That's not a humorous exaggeration. I can leave black streaks going from 3rd to 4th with warm tires on brand new toasty pavement. There are things that can help (adjustable 5th shock, CalTracs), but it will never be close to what can be done with an IRS or true 4-link setup. Weight in the bed also helps, but you're sacrificing doing that. Drag radials help those with short-term racing goals (1320'...heh heh), but the huge size of the rear brakes hinder the use of smaller rims. Insane torque + no weight over tires = no traction. There's a reason we're the Burnout Kings!

Just a little late here...slow old guy here... I have a custom designed rear end that is a Dana 60 with a Detroit Locker. The gears (4:56) are cyroed, it has 35 spline axles (Carrie) and the axle case is from Strange. The rear end saves just under 100 lbs from the stock rear end. One of the advantages is that it has Wilwood Calipers so it is possible to use 15 inch slicks if you wish. I also have CalTracs which hold the wheel hop to a minimum. You might be surprised that the stock truck at the track has pretty even weight distribution...it is close to 50/50 depending on the driver! The locker is a typical locker...it locks and unlocks in slow turns and bangs from time to time...have to get used to that!...but it eliminates the fishtailing. Black lines now go straight and the tailgate stays at the rear of the vehicle...that's important!!! This set up is probably about $4000k and in my opinion very helpful and reliable.
I would love to have your rear axle setup in my truck Roy...Best 60' I have gotten with DRs is 1.72......Best 60' I have seen a truck do is FatJack's 1.5 using slicks..that was with a stock rear..
There was a guy named Brady (don't know if that was his first or last name)in Southern Cal his truck ran 10.73 @ 137 a while back, I know it had a Paxton & I think NOS
Yea, He went by Nowwhat on the VTCOA..he ran a record run in a quad cab SRT10.....he had about $120K in the drive train...if I remember right he did a 350 shot of the laughing gas.. Here is his sig: 8.4L Forged Motor By Exotic Engine Development with a DC Performance Custom Paxton Supercharger - Direct Port NO2 System with Maximizer II Controller 250-500 Shot - Chris Jensen Tune 9.0 ..
Who was it that "TUBBED OUT" his bed and put that INSANE looking custom rear end in? Those super wide tires look sweet! haha thats what i eventually am aiming for!
The truck you are referring to is Dale's....TinyGiants... He lives in Seattle, and just rebuilt his engine...is in the process of getting some break in miles on it, and will be doing final tuning very soon...his engine was built by the same guy that built my engine, John Edwards of JMZ Engines. John is a premier Viper engine builder, worked for Arrow, Dodge and Archer Racing...he builds engines one at a time at his home in Michigan.
Now I bet he will get drag slicks to fit! haha I love that set up!:worthy: haha, and I figured you for a TOAD!
It is the sickest truck around from the rear! I have the same locker rear end and axle...but his has been shortened a bit to allow for those huge shoes...we both have Wilwood brakes on the rear. Dale is a super guy by the way...about to get married too!
kool.... Those SHOES are SICK! reminds me of my old mans' 66 HEMI SATELITE! He did a similar conversion to it....It'd pull wheelies!
Dale just put down 716 rwhp and 717 Tq...on a DynoJet. He was experiencing a little belt slippage...so the numbers will grow as he solves that problem... What an awesome machine!
