if you can put your hand on it for a 1 thousand 1 count then have to remove it, it's less than 120...and should be fine.

If you get an instant 3rd degree burn (blistering with a little charring) then it might be too hot.

Pretty much happens at exactly the same time. One might come before the other but since you're going to be violently shaking your hand up and down going "ow! ow! ow!" it's hard to see if it's already blistered and charred.

But 120*? Pretty much everything under the hood is going to be hotter than that right?

I'm just not on board with the over tensioned theory...I could see it breaking the belt if overly tensioned, and thermal expansion taking place, but not shearing every tooth off. I've been selling HTD industrial drives for 17 years, the ones I've had that look like yours are from exceeding load capacity for which the belt/drive was designed for.
I thought maybe it got too hot and weakened the teeth and that caused them to shear...whatever caused it, i'de keep a spare in the car at all times.

I am still going with tension...unless it just happened to be a bad belt, they are dozens f cars running the same setup without issue at the track and every day, I can't see heat being an issue as you are not spinning any faster than other Vortech cars with the same setup. Overtension will cause your issue though.

wow steve.... been out of action for awhile and did not realize you had belt issues!! looks to me like things might have been a bit overly taught...... also, have you checked the bracket for any movement??? i have also seen set ups that have too much movement to them tend to shread belts like this as well...... i would def keep a spare in the car though!!! lol
